Christie OK’s Medical Marijuana for Kids

Read Time:1 Minute, 10 Second

The more I hear and see New jersey Governor Chris Christie the more I like him, despite the fact he’s a republican.  Yesterday he agreed to a common sense approach to medical marijuana.

Kids in New Jersey are a signature away from gaining easier access to medical marijuana, CNN reports. Gov. Chris Christie today agreed to sign a medical-marijuana bill if lawmakers would make two changes:

  • Make edible marijuana forms available to qualified children, not to everyone
  • Require a psychiatrist and pediatrician to sign off on the minor’s prescription

New Jersey’s current law grants patients access to medical marijuana, but this bill would allow more strains to be grown and ease the application process for kids. Children currently need three letters of approval for medical marijuana, and the new bill would require just one; seems Christie is splitting the difference. The bill would also allow for medical marijuana in edible form to be packaged and distributed. Christie reached his decision under pressure from the father of an epileptic girl who may benefit from a marijuana strain that isn’t yet available in New Jersey. But Christie, a possible presidential hopeful for the GOP in 2016, said it’s still a tough decision: “These are complicated issues,” he told the father. “I know you think it’s simple and it’s not.”

Christie has consistently shown the ability to go against the grain of the hard right wingers. He doesn’t seem to be a flip flopper like Romney. But he is a Republican, and he is a political animal just as all of them are. If he were to run for president I don’t think he could win their primaries but if he did he could actually be a formidable opponent for Hillary. He has been elected governor in a highly democratic state and is likely to be re elected. I am not sure his tell it like it is approach would be taken very well at the national level though and I don’t believe that anyone could defeat Hillary if she decides she wants the office.

Your key phrase is, “If she decides she wants the office.” At one time, she desperately wanted to be the first woman president. Now that Obama has broken the black barrier, that would not be the distinction it once was. Particularly that women have already been chief executives in many other countries.

If she decides nit to run, Christie will be a much more viable candidate and his blunt approach may appeal to all of those fed up with the prevaricating evasiveness of other candidates.

I agree. I also recognize that she might decide, “I’ve had enough of this shit.” Still, being president is a far better class of shit then most of us will ever know.

Give me a heavy duty republican that doesn’t believe in any god(s) and I’ll tell you there must be hope for them yet!

Perhaps this is a ray of hope for the Republicans? I seriously doubt that many of them will recognize it.
