6 Easy Projects to Spruce Up Your House This Weekend

Read Time:3 Minute, 24 Second

It’s finally Friday and you’ve got the itch to do something this weekend. Rather than start a project that you likely won’t finish, why not start a smaller project? There are hundreds of small projects that you can start this weekend around the house. Here are a few projects that you should work on in your home this weekend.

Light Up Your Yard

Have you ever wanted your yard to feel more alive at night? Now’s the perfect time to do just that. Grab some outdoor solar powered lights and place them along your walkway. Now your yard will look bright and lively when the sun goes down. It’s that simple.

Spruce Up Your Porch

Your porch has been looking a little bare lately, hasn’t it? Now’s the perfect time to spruce it up. Install a new light fixtures or replace the bulbs with brighter lights. Add a welcome mat to welcome all of your guests. Install some benches so you’ll have a place to sit and chat, instead of going inside the house. Finish off the look with some new potted plants.

If you have an Orlando, Florida home, then you’ll definitely want to spruce up your porch for when guests come to visit. With the great weather you experience all year, there’s no excuse not to sit on it and enjoy it.

Clean the Gutters

Alright, let’s be honest. When’s the last time you actually cleaned the gutters? It’s been months — maybe even years — hasn’t it? Well, it’s time to clean them out. Set aside a time this weekend to do it and stick to it. It’s a lot easier to do it and get it over with than to constantly put it off. If you’ve got a large house, you may want to call and get assistance. But if it’s just one story, set a ladder up and get to work.

Patch the Holes in Your Wall

Remember the holes that you left the last time you redecorated the room? It’s time to take care of them. If it’s a nail hole, you can easily repair it with a putty knife and surfacing compound. Larger holes will require a bit more, though. You’ll need an adhesive patch for the area, then you’ll need to spread drywall compound over it with a trowel. Extremely large holes will need to sit overnight, but if it’s a smaller one then a few hours should be fine. Once it’s dry, just paint over it.

Add a Medicine Cabinet

On your way to bed, it’s easy to forget about everything else that needs to be taken care of and collapse onto that soft, comfy mattress. Since this is the case, it’s important that you install a medicine cabinet in the bathroom. Instead of cutting into the wall, get one that can attach to the wall; either next to or over the bathroom sink. Use a stud finder to determine whether that area is safe to install anything. Once you’ve found the perfect area, installation should take less than an hour.

Install a Ceiling Fan

Do you have a room that won’t cool down, no matter what you do? Install a ceiling fan to circulate the air and cool it down. You’ll need to shut off the electricity, remove the old plate, attach the new one, and wire the fixture. After that, install the fan blades and you’re good to go. The whole process will probably take an hour or two depending on your level of expertise. And if you’re not completely confident that you can do this without burning the house down, call a friend or a repair man to do it for you. There’s no shame in asking for help.

There are literally hundreds of do-it-yourself projects that you could take up this weekend. From making your home more friendly to cooling off rooms, these projects are quick and fairly inexpensive, and can be completed in just a few short hours. Do you have any projects planned for this upcoming weekend? If so, what do you want to do?
