Cats Protection And Norman’s Cattery

I am a member of ‘Cats Protection’ as is the wifey. At the moment it is quite possible that the wifey doesn’t remember she’s part of the human race but we all have bad days eh?

‘Cats Protection’ is a national UK charity that looks after unwanted Gerbils – sorry, it’s my natural way – CATS. CP looks after cats that nobody else wants.

Well, sometimes somebody ‘wants’ and the cats get a new home. The good thing about ‘Cats Protection’ is that they NEVER put a cat to sleep unless it is terminally ill and in pain. Said cat can be 230 years old – oops – I meant 20 years old, 230??? Bloody hell!! An immortal cat!!

Anyway, you get my drift? If a cat is healthy it lives and has a great 9 lives. Well it does with CP anyroad.

After 25 years of being a member of the UK’s Cats Protection (and I donate to The Dogs Trust  just so you don’t think I’m biased) I can honestly say that being a part of an animal charity – especially when it is ‘hands on’ is possibly the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Like many of us I am often ‘pressured’ to donate to ‘human charities’ to prevent kids starving in Africa. I never do, mainly because said kids will starve anyway as African ‘leaders’ are even more corrupt than ‘western’ leaders.

As the TV adverts often show us – ‘Oh look at this poor black kid in Africa who’s going to die if you don’t give £2.00 a month’ – Yeah, right, he’s already dead so I think I’ll bung a bit of MY hard earned towards animals.

I don’t mean to be ‘hard faced’ or ‘hard hearted’ but, frankly,  I wouldn’t give a penny to any African ‘save the children charity’ as I know it won’t save the children it will merely finance some African leader’s desire to have a house with a swimming pool.

Am I jaded or terminally suspicious of African charities? YEP.

Cats and Dogs – and, in extremis even Gerbils. I’ll donate. Save The Whales? Absolutely. ‘Kill a Canadian Seal Hunter Before He Kills A Seal’? If that was a charity I’d donate.

My advice for what it is worth – which I freely admit is probably not that much – is donate to animal charities and ignore ‘people charities’. ‘People charities’ include Iraq and Iran and Libya and Afghanistan along with Zimbabwe and Somalia.

Clearly, children in such places are in ‘A VERY BAD PLACE’ – I don’t dispute that and, ‘there for the grace of God go I’ but their problems are the problems created by US – humanity. Their problems are related to their unfortunate luck to be born there.

Baby seals clubbed to death and Elephants hunted illegally for Ivory have no conception of humanity and the evils we are capable of perpetrating.

Save the Gerbils. I appear to ‘have a thing’ about Gerbils – I’m so sorry.

I have 6 cats saved from a life of strife as feral cats would have. Many humans wouldn’t care and I accept that albeit I would consider such humans ‘dicks’ of the highest order.

Maximus Spittimuss, The Stealth Bomber, Billy No Mates, Gracie Mae The Fruit Bat, Purrrdy, Marie Bug and even the late Bumble.

I firmly believe that we, humanity, have far more obligation to non-human creatures on our world than we have to each other – but, then again, I am clearly nuts so what do I know?
