Dumb things: 6-year old boy suspended for kissing girl on cheek
America can be a really dumb place sometimes, and today Colorado is named our dumbest state because of the actions of the Canon City school. A 6-year-old boy has been suspended for two days from a Colorado school for kissing a girl on the cheek and hand—with his actions being labeled “sexual harassment.” Say what? Sexual harassment? And it even gets worse.
Further, they want it added to Hunter Yelton’s school record, reports theAP. Hunter tells KRDO what happened: “It was during class yeah. We were doing reading group and I leaned over and kissed her on the hand. They sent me to the office, fair and square. I did something wrong and I feel sorry.” He had previously kissed her on the cheek, report KRDO. Mom Jennifer Saunders isn’t happy with where it went from there. “I had the meeting with the principal, where she first said ‘sexual harassment’. This is taking it to an extreme that doesn’t need to be met with a 6-year-old. Now my son is asking questions… what is sex mommy? That should not ever be said, sex. Not in a sentence with a 6-year-old.” She admits her son had previously kissed the girl on the cheek, and says he was grounded after being disruptive at school.
A School District RE-1 official says the repeat offenses meet the school policy definition of sexual harassment and they hope the tough standards will force the boy to change his behavior.

I wonder if the “victim” thought she was being sexually harassed? The zero tolerance schools have for behaviors that children doing what they do not even understand is wrong is just plain stupid. This someone can fix. Someone needs to apply common sense.
There’s a more complete story about this incident:

We definitely are concentrating on the wrong things and teaching our children that good is bad. The lessons that he (the six-year-old) can take home are devastating!
Thanks Marsha!
This is a good example of why school administration should never be left to professional educators. They have lived in academia so long that they believe it is a subset of the real world.
I think that all administrators should spend 3 years out of every five in the classroom, teaching. Then they should have to spend the next several years working in the private sector where they have to actually produce results that can be measured objectively and paid accordingly.
Full time teachers should also be limited to five years in the classroom and then have to work outside the educational system.
