Sarah the Palin, former half-governor of Alaska, wasted no time in defending Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson after he made his anti-gay remarks to GQ magazine.  In typical fashion however The Palin hadn’t actually read the interview, but thought it necessary to defend what Robertson said, whatever it was, she told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren yesterday.

The controversy, however, doesn’t end with The Palin:

  • Merry Christmas? Despite Robertson’s suspension from the show, over at A&E there will be plenty of Duck Dynasty to watch tomorrow, Fox News reports. In fact, the network is showing 25 episodes straight, starting at 3:30pm EST.
  • The sheriff of Douglas County, Georgia, tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he won’t work with A&E anymore. “If you can’t speak about what’s in the Bible, that’s wrong,” he says. Duck Dynasty isn’t filmed in the county, the paper notes, but many other A&E shows have worked with the sheriff’s office. I’m quite sure Douglas County gets more out of A&E than the network gets out of Douglas County.
  • Other Robertson family members have said they’re not sure they’ll return to the network—but they may not have a choice. An insider tells Fox News that the Robertsons “all have binding agreements” regarding the show. “It’s the network’s option, not theirs.”

I can’t believe we are still talking about her. We all know that she is stupid and never adds anything to a conversation. I agree with Jim that it really diminishes John McCain for ever bringing her into the spotlight. Were it not for Fox news I think she might just disaapear.

Bill, I agree that it’s hard to fathom our “fascination” with Palin, but it’s there and we must acknowledge it, just as we acknowledge that Paris Hilton can get media attention any time she says, “That’s Hottttt.”

This is a symptom of our society’s mental health more than an issue with Palin, Hilton or Kardashian. I suspect all societies have this illness, but it’s manifested more profoundly in more open, commercial societies. We are easily distracted, and in Palin’s case, she is a deliberate distraction fabricated by very powerful political forces. Palin is the diversion in the magic trick. And the diversion gets us to miss the fact that we are being fleeced by huge corporations.

Palin makes us think about the crumbs on the floor while the major forces behind the politics steal the banquet and empty the fridge and panty.

Palin is the Kardashians or Paris Hilton of politics. She was granted momentary celebrity by a very foolish and desperate John McCain, and, since she doesn’t have a real job of any merit, her entire gig is staying in the public eye. Thus the comparison to other celebs for celebrity’s sake.

This once again gives me the opportunity to damn John McCain for being the most instrumental person in opening the lid on the Tea Party Pandora’s Box. With his one desperate act of recruiting Palin to be his VP-candidate runningmate, McCain condemned the US to the last 6 years of Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz and the whole lot of nut jobs who never should have risen out of state and House politics.

I’m not religious. It pains me to think that I don’t believe in a special place in Hell for John McCain.

How nice that every so often, Sarah surfaces just enough to remind everyone exactly how stupid she is. That’s very considerate of her.
