Bride Killed In Car Wreck Minutes After Wedding Reception
Sadly, a young woman’s life was snuffed out in a tragic car accident over the weekend. What makes matters worse is if she had been wearing a seat belt she may well have survived. Seat belts DO save lives and this sad story should serve as a cautionary tale to those who refuse to wear restraints in a car:
On what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, a Cherokee County woman was killed in a tragic car wreck Sunday night as she and her new husband drove away from their wedding in Ball Ground.
The new bride, Kali Shay Dobson, 25, died after the couple’s Pontiac Firebird overturned on Highway 5 about 8:30 p.m. and she was thrown from the car, said Franka Young, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
Young said Dobson’s new husband, Ryan Patrick Quinton, 27, of Jasper, was driving the car and has told authorities that he lost control and drove off the road because he was trying to miss a dog.
Dobson was not wearing a seatbelt and was trapped under the car when it stopped, Young said. She died on the scene and Quinton was sent to Northside-Hospital Cherokee in Canton for treatment.
“Blood was drawn to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor,” Young said Monday. “The crash is still under investigation. Charges are pending.”

yep, drinking and driving his firebird
I have been using seat belts since the days when you had to buy and install your own. I’ve never regretted it, even though my own father subscribed to the error, “I’s rather be thrown clear.” As if that actually saved anyone instead of killing them.
Same here James. Been wearing seat belts for as long as I can remember. It was rather like a common sense kind of thing.
Pitiful and useless tragedy.
I worked in a trauma center and we also saw passengers who were wearing seat belts killed because the driver was not and in the crash, the driver’s body slammed so hard against the passenger that they were killed. I never drive in a car if the driver does not have a seat belt on or the passenger if I’m driving.
Carol I had forgotten about that phenomena. People need to be educated about the hazards, the many of them, of not wearing seatbelts.
Yes Carol, I tell everyone who gets in my car and attempts not to wear one, “put it on ot you will die!” Of course they think I’m kidding, and just being dramatic, but I seriously will not move until everyone has theirs on.
In October, 1987, I had my face reconstructed, due to a car accident. But I was wearing my seat belt, and I’m here writing about it today.
