Uninformed Global Warming Deniers Elated Over Cold Snap

The majority of people, most being Republican, don’t understand climate change that is aggravated by global warming. They cling to their guns and to their bibles, but not to their common sense or understanding of climate. To deny global warming is to uphold the party line. The fact is most deniers are simply uninformed as to the mechanics of climate change, or just aren’t smart enough to understand it.
Given the deep freeze engulfing much of the country, you may have heard more than one person scoffing about global warming. Jokes aside, climate change is still very real, LiveScience insists. In fact, scientists believe much of the cold weather can actually be explained by global warming. For one thing, hot air holds more moisture than cold air, which makes for more snowfall and sea ice. Plus, as the Arctic ice cap melts thanks to rising polar temperatures, it pushes Arctic air south. Even the cold air now being swirled around by the polar vortex is probably due to ocean heat that’s changed the wind’s pattern.
For those still skeptical, one meteorologist explains it thusly: “Weather is like one play in a football game. Climate is the history of the NFL.” Despite snowstorms, winter temperatures on the whole have risen, lakes freeze later in the season, and ice is much thinner than it used to be. Plus, spring arrives up to two weeks earlier than 20 years ago. Pair that with the fact that Australia—now in its summer—just finished its hottest year on record and topped out at temperatures of 125 degrees last week, and you’ve got yourself some serious global warming, LiveScience notes.

Marsha you are absolutely right. People take the word “warming” literally so when it gets cold they assume that “warming” is not taking place. I like to think the majority of these people are Republicans. What do you think?
Mike, I fear that you are correct. Much as I hate sweeping generalizations, both my father and my baby brother are flaming Republicans (as is my next younger sister, but I kind of don’t put her in the same category) it IS generally the Republicans who appear to spurn reality. My father was a well-respected scientist, although he has been retired for over 15 years, and my baby brother certainly has two older sisters who are knowledgeable in science, and one whose husband is (and then there’s my next younger one, for whom I regrettably have limited respect…). I wish that there were a way that I could attribute all Republicans with all the negative feelings that I have about right wing nut cases, but knowing that my father is out there, I don’t know. On the other end, even my father used to be MORE reasonable in his politics. He IS over 83 at this point… Maybe senility is setting in…
The problem is, we use individual words that people think they know the meaning of:
“climate” – “that’s kind of like the surrounding weather, right?”
“Change” – “duh, that’s getting different”
or
“global” – “all around you”
“warming” – “duh, getting hotter!”
People understand the individual words, hence, they must automatically understand the concepts and ideas that those words are instruments stating. Never mind that the words themselves DON’T EXPLAIN the concepts. They NAME the underlying trend; they do NOT explain said trend! I’m sure that’s part of why scientists try to use the term “climate change” more regularly now been “global warming”. Unfortunately, it’s too late for that change to amend the original interpretation. “It is supposed to be ‘warming'”, after all!” We are hindered by the fact that we try to use unpretentious words which people then assume DESCRIBE something that is NOT immediately straightforward to those who really don’t want to understand or believe! As long as they can use the term whose words don’t immediately point to what they perceived as the immediate truth, they can continue to deny. Arrrgh!
I have to correct myself here. Just found out Polar Vortex came into being in 1959, not the 70s, from an American Meteorological report defining it. Something else that differentiates us from the GoOpers, we correct our mistakes. Al Roker talked about it on the Today show this morning. Also told the people saying it was made up to stuff it.
Our climate is changing. Morons think it isn’t. The religious qualify. Nuff said.
Lush Rimjob on his show yesterday, was saying libs are trying to scare everyone using a new phrase they came up with Polar Vortex. Idiot did not do any research or he would have seen this same phrase used decades ago to explain the same thing, think it was in the 70s. It’s cold, therefore there cannot be global warming. I just don’t get how people can be so very ignorant when all the information is out there.

When did Limbaugh ever allow anything like facts to intrude upon his opinion? Doing research? Nope, he’d have to hire an assistant to do something that intelligent. That might cut into his income. Can’t have that!

How ironic that the very people that claim their god gave them intelligence are the first to reject using that intelligence.
What you people fail to understand is that God is real big. Galileo, had he had a telescope big enough, which humanity still doesn’t, would have actually discovered that everything indeed revolves around us. And it is the same with the hoax of global warming. God is real big. It was warm during the Jurassic Period which actually occurred about 4200 years. So there you have proof positive that God controls climate.
If this god is so big and wants his little experiment to continue, why does he not wrap his big ass body around us for protection, like a forcefield, or is he doing that and this is why we think there is global warming?
