Millennials Next Best Generation

Chris Erskine, a columnist in the Los Angeles Times, today makes the bold assertion that millennials are poised to be our “greatest generation,” and no, he’s is not a millennial himself.  He has, however, taught them, coached them, and worked beside them, and he can’t say enough good things.

“They are inherently more adaptive, they are idealistic, they are tolerant of differences,” he writes. “They are aspirational in all the right ways.”

Erskine deflects the standard knocks: Too coddled as kids? Encouraging treatment “produced a generation of eager and motivated children, not the worst qualities in an achievement-based world.” Too needy as adults? Eh, they’ll grow out of it.

As boomers retire, the professional world will open up far more opportunities for this tech-savvy and ambitious group, and they’re going to thrive.

So, sorry, Tom Brokaw, but these newcomers “show all the signs of becoming the greatest generation in human history.”

I hope you folks are right but someone has to step up and lead the way. Maybe it will be Jess. That would be cool.

Sorry, I don’t buy that, as least from the ones I am seeing now. They are not necessarily bad people, and they are tech savvy, but who will do their think for them. For the most part these young people have chosen not to be learners nor deep thinkers. Generally they could care less about history and the lessons we have learned in the past. There they are quite likely to repeat those mistakes in the future. There will be a lot of these young ones who will come out of fundamentalist religious backgrounds and continue to push for a theocracy without really knowing the dangers in that practice. Those of the rich will always believe in their entitlement to everything.

Hell with a back seat Mike, he is nowhere near my car at all. I wouldn’t want him in there stinking up the place with smelly desert feet and the robes, don’t get me started on how filthy they must be.
