Study: Dog owners hard-working and sociable-Cat lovers messy and lazy
What does your pet tell the world about YOU? Well, they say that dog owners are hard-working and sociable while cat lovers are messy and lazy.
In the war of the pets, dogs have won the latest battle – or at least their owners have.
Research discovered not only are dogs the most popular animal of choice to have in the home – dog owners are hardworking early risers, and most likely to be married.
- Research has found dogs are the most popular pets for animals lovers
- Married men living in the countryside are most likely to own a dog
- While single women in their twenties are most likely to own a cat
- More than half of dog owners describe themselves as hardworking
- Whereas the majority of cat owners claim to be introverted and messy
- Rabbit owners described themselves as creative, laid back scatterbrains
Elsewhere, rabbit and dog owners said they were early risers, while cat lovers claimed to be night owls. The poll was conducted by UK pet insurer Petplan to celebrate the launch of its Find a Pet website.

Whoa! I must be schizophrenic. I have a dog, a pretty big dog, and multiple cats. So, that makes me a hard working, lazy, messy person. Yep, that about fits. I am about to take a nap while I grade papers as I do some research on a case I am working on out of town for two different attorneys, when I find my computer which is hidden among a mound of clothes scattered around my room. Hopefully, when I wake up this nightmare will be over.
Bill you just described an academic that owns a pretty big dog and multiple cats 🙂
Yep.
Whereas I don’t deny that I’m lazy, I take offense at being called a night owl with the assumption that I sleep all day. I am usually in bed before 8:30 PM, and I’m awake before 6 AM. And there’s no way that my husband could be referred to as “lazy”. And yes, we have a cat and no dogs. I would love an English mastiff (if I had any idea where I can get one), but I physically can’t walk it. And then there’s my husband’s policy of not caring for a pet who weighs more than one 10th his weight (I don’t think that an English mastiff qualifies :-), given that he’s (my husband is) 150 pounds…). And messy? Well, all of my previous roommate/apartment mates will say that I am DEFINITELY messy. But since I had kids, I know what messy is! No, I think that all judgments of pet ownership and personal preferences (in terms of hours and messiness) are totally unrelated. But that’s just me…
By the way, we have one cat and no dogs. I would prefer to or three cats, but Myya (my current cat) has made it abundantly clear that she really likes being an only pet.
Oh and dog owners can’t be that hardworking when they have their animals driving for them. Not really, saw this the other day and thought it was funny. Dog was missing his owners who had gone into a gallery and decided to get their attention by honking the horn at them.

Yeah! Oh wait. I don’t have a cat so I guess I’m hard working and sociable, as opposed to messy and lazy 🙂
What about those of us with both, do we just work hard at being lazy?
