US Needs To Stand Firm Against Nevada Militia

It’s time for people to take a stand. It may or may not be another civil war but it is high time we get a few things straightened out in this country. Are we a nation of laws, order, and decorum, or are we a nation where those who shout the loudest and brandish their guns every chance they get anything they want?
It almost came to a head this past weekend in Nevada and I am here to say that it’s probably time to have it out. It seems that a fee loading rancher by the name of Cliven Bundy has been feeding his cattle on federal land for the past twenty years without paying his fees for doing so like all of the other ranchers in the area. The Bureau of Land Management went to court and got a judgement against him for $1 million and were awarded the right to seize the 500 head of cattle which were feeding on the federal lands. As they proceeded to gather the cattle they were resisted by Bundy and his family members. It garnered the attention of Sean Hannity and Fox News, those so-called law and order folks.
That’s all it took. No sooner than you could ratchet a round into a pump shotgun, state’s rights people from around the country were swarming into Nevada and protesting the ‘Nazi’ like tactics of the federal government. You know, like enforcing the law. Many of them were armed with military style assault rifles ready to fight the hellish federal government. The federal government that Cliven Bundy said he does not recognize.
So there they were. Eyeballs to eyeballs and teeth to teeth. All that was needed was a match to light the fuse for the bomb to go off. Fortunately, the BLM was the grown up and backed down in the interest of safety, returning 300 seized cows. But now, where does that leave the rest of us in this country?What kind of precedent does this set for other nut cases who decide that they no longer want to recognize the federal government and their laws? All they have to do is get a bunch of other wackos with guns and stare down the feds and they get away with it. WTF?
Nope, I say bull hockey! It’s time we call their damned bluff. Get the troops, the national guards, the federal law enforcement agencies and take them back out there. Tell Bundy, and any others that if they interfere with due process of law they will be arrested, and if they resist force will be used. Tell the wackos that if they really want to see what the real power of the federal government is like, then bring your asses on down. Right now, in the desert so no one else will be harmed. If you want to play ‘tough guns’ then we will show what the real deal is all about. BUT, and here is the rub, boys and girls, do not show up unless you are willing to pay the ultimate price for your lawlessness because we will not be playing.
Now, all the good old boys and girls that have been talking big and bad have their chance to put up or shut up. Mr. Bundy will recognize the federal government when his butt is sitting in a federal prison, or dead, whichever comes first. The wackos that come out to taunt and get in the way will be loaded on cattle cars or their bodies into dump trucks, whichever they choose, if they want to join the party. There has to be a point where a line is drawn and the authorities says “NO FREAKIN’ MORE”. The other option is anarchy. I say this is the time before these nuts are marching through downtown USA and making their own laws as they get to them.
Now, I thank for letting me rant. For the most part this is a tongue in cheek unloading. But, not totally. I know these kind of people because I live among them and around them all my life. There is no reasoning with them because reasoning requires a brain. I worked on a murder case where an old guy shot a man and a woman and killed another man because the man and woman had their fence 4″ on his property. He said he had a constitutional right to protect his property.
If the government does not take a stand here and now, there will be consequences. The only thing that these people will understand is to be met with firm enforcement of the law. I am not in favor of violence unless or until it is necessary to maintain and orderly society. I would use force to enforce the law against the likes of Mr Bundy and those like him.
Update: Bundy has called on local sheriffs across the U.S. to join his crusade against government overreach.

I do agree with Bill as well, however, in that the government MUST take a stand, some kind of stand and can’t let this right wing militant and his gang of feckless fools make the US look like the fools.
Mike, this a perfect case to make our point. The man is clearly in the wrong and those showing up with their guns to side with him are siding with what is clearly the wrong side. It is in an out of the way place so there is no any great likelihood of innocents getting hurt. The yahoos that coming running gun in hand are some of the same ones that have said that the government cannot take my guns away. While our military cannot operate in the country except on U.S. Property, which this is, this would be a could chance to show these wackos what it would be like to actually face off against, oh I don’t know, three platoons of Marines.
….and a drone!
I thought Bundy was the drone. That is, one that lives off the largess of the group while doing nothing useful to support that group.

There is no need for this showdown mentality though. Give peace a chance. BLM handled this correctly.
Use the tools of law and order machinery to bring Cliven Bundy to justice. USA government has all the power and does not need the situation to be escalated into a violent confrontation.
Have the USA government deal with him like any other accused drug dealer law breaker; take him to court, arrest him, confiscate his property, and tie him up in legal actions.
Playing this up as a out of control riot situation is playing into Cliven Bundy hands.

Thank you sir. The biggest problem here is that there are hundreds of other ranchers who are paying there grazing fees and the nut thinks he is special. Now everyone has made him some type of hero instead of the idiot he is.
Emma, I am with you but if he had been treated like any other law breaker he, his family, and all of those people from Jerkwater U.S.A. would be in jail right now. BLM took the right course for the moment, but it needs to quickly regroup and go back and arrest him promptly and seize the said cattle as per the court order. Mr Bundy has had more than enough time to fight this in the courts if he chose to, but he did not. Also, from all reports this man is not some small poor rancher. He does very well with his operations.
Bundy? Surely he can’t be a relative? Obviously mad as a hatter though so maybe he is?

We need to go in and round up this cowboy militia before we look any more stupid than we already do. Once a few of them start getting shot they’ll decide this may not be their cause after all.
