God Does Not Hold Political Office

Read Time:2 Minute, 40 Second

Of all the dangers to freedom and our republic, real or imagined, none is greater than the use of religion as a tool, or weapon, to govern.

Many of my fellow Christians may think that the recent Supreme Court Ruling on public prayer at government functions is a good thing.  It is, in reality, a dangerous practice that all who appreciate freedom, including from religion should eschew.

There are thousands of denominations which can be labled “Christian.”   They all have their own set of beliefs.  The Supreme Court has now injected itself into the argument which one is right.  And there is no way to determine other than death and asking St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, or whatever one thinks Heaven’s entrance looks like, since The Bible has been rewritten and reinterpreted over a million times.   Many Christians accept that God appeared to Moses in the form of a burning bush but call people who think He appeared to Muhammed or Joseph Smith kooks.

Protestants believe faith is what gets you into Heaven while Catholics believe good works are also necessary.   Soon the Supreme Court will be in a position that it may have to decide whom God spoke to and how we get to Heaven because a majority of it’s members decided that prayer is part of our national fabric,  and it’s prayer to the God those Christians worship in a Christian manner.    If anyone thinks I’m full of it I dare any of our Muslim friends to bring a prayer rug to a public meeting and start your prayers.

The politics of religion is powerful. Thomas Jefferson once said the public can forgive all sorts of drinking and debauchery but miss one mass and they want to crucify you. This, my friends, is still true. Question God and good people open themselves up to spite and worse.  Rarely is there a candidate that can win an election without a Bible in hand and pictures plastering his/her campaign literature of their families attending church.   Too many of my fellow citizens forget they are voting for people, not God.  Their past actions indicate if they are of good character. Not how many Bible verses they can quote.   And if possible I refuse to vote for anyone who tries to use religion as a campaign theme.  Sadly most candidates do this pandering.

So we have a 5 to 4 majority of the Supreme Court ruling we are a “Christian” nation. As an American I think that is despicable.  Any true republican should be outraged that any government body should declare our nation an adherent to any religion.  The state must not tell us whom to worship or how.

We are outraged when a nation declares itself an “Islamic Republic.” We should be outraged when our own government declares or rules we are Christian. It’s none of the government’s business who Americans worship or not. That’s up to the individual.   I don’t care how many Bibles any member of Congress, or the Supreme Court bang-religion is my right, not the government’s. Its role is to protect my freedom to practice it whatever “it” is, not declare government to be a member of it.

Us poor old agnostics never get a look in….can I sue for discrimination? Could use an extra buck or three…

Well done, Joe. Saying this country is a “Christian” country is as silly as saying the US is a “White” country, just because a majority of the population (for now) is white. Not all Christians support the federal government favoring the Christian religion, just the insecure people who are professional victims.

Maybe not all, maybe not most, but as this hadn’t been a democracy for some time, it may be enough. The aggressive Christianists are another big money interest and as such have more votes than their numbers would suggest. They’re eating away at the foundations at a time when most Americans have no idea what those foundations are and have completely lost tough with the principles — or simply don’t care.

Not to worry people. Jess is going all in with what she said she was going to earlier in the week. I found the perfect erotica to read in a church and I plan on doing just that on Sunday. Anyone tells me I shouldn’t do this because we can’t paint all of them as thinking like this and we don’t need to stoop to this level. Yes I can and yes I will, till I don’t have to hear about some idiot on any town council talking to an invisible sky pixie as if it is the only one in the world and leaves me an atheist out of the thought process like I don’t contribute in any way. I am sick of it and plan on doing something that one person can do all by their lonesome. Any takers on how long till I am booted from a church? Best friend says less than 5 minutes from when the usher first hears me.

Depends on what you’re wearing and how you introduce it Jess. Tell them you have to read it because it’s sinful and the dupes will listen to it all day and pretend to be offended.

I’m going to be wearing a regular mini and shirt with heels, my usual Sunday brunch outfit. Oh I don’t plan on telling anyone why I am doing what I am doing Joe. I am going to just launch into an erotica reading when it’s very quiet, I don’t care what part of the service it is and who it offends or does not offend.
My husband is way pissed off at me for deciding to do this and I quote, not all of us Christians are doing this J and you need to take that into consideration because what you are going to do is really rude in a church service. Honey I love you more than you know but you are way wrong if you think your being upset with me is going to stop me doing this. Don’t you feel bad for my poor husband having to deal with a person like me? 🙂

Here we go! Who, what, when, where, how and why? Inquiring minds want to know, ya know 🙂

My dad’s old church in San Jose, since his priest is a pretty progressive dude. I used to call him father what a waste to his face. I had made a comment the other day when this first popped up, I was going to find the nastiest piece of erotica I could find and spout off about it in a church, since those are technically holy books to me along with my vampire stuff. The book is “a breakthrough in explicit fiction” 🙂 Steve the horse dude has “lots of friends he does not mind demonstrating the joys of bisexuality on his ranch, the rodeo circuit and elsewhere.” I am doing this because I am sick of the buybull and its words being used when it shouldn’t be used, so I figure I should spread the gospel of bisexuality and sexytimes in churches right? Kent is so upset with me right now he could spit. He’ll either get over it or he won’t, not my issue.

If by “bisexuality” you mean getting sex twice a year, I am familiar with that Jess. You tramp.

LOL. Nope, getting it on with members of the opposite sex dude. I know you guys’ respect for me is probably going down the toilet as my one gf has just told me, no J you can’t do that it’s not cool. I may have to tone this fucker down, the amount of grief I am getting over it from my circle of friends and THAT pisses me off I am listening to others about this. I might just go with something less trampy like meeting minutes from a recent council meeting as I suggested to someone up there. It will be as boring as the recited prayers in a church but it will be comforting to my friends that I am not going to desecrate their houses of worship with filth.

If people want to pray they should do it in their churches not my government halls.

Go to one of your local churches with the meeting minutes of a council meeting and start reading them out loud during their silent prayer time.

We also have an Alabama Supreme Court Justice insisting that the first amendment is only for Christians. Remember that the first amendment protects us not only from state religion but protects freedom of speech. Is that now only for Christians in Alabama? The precedent that these protections apply to the states as well as the Federal Government is under attack here, and perhaps it’s been mortally wounded already.

In a way, this is the metaphorical Fort Sumter and the beginning of another attempt at bringing back the Confederate States of America. I think the line between state’s rights and secession is being crossed.

I thought secularism was on the rise in the US, and I think it is, but the Christians aren’t going easy into that good night.

I still question, NOW can we impeach them?

I don’t know if a supreme court justice can be impeached and I should know that. Time for some research.

Why yes, yes they can be impeached Mr Scott. I believe T, Jefferson set that precedent when he was pissed off at judicial over reach and tried to get Federalists off the bench, I also have the memory of Samuel Chase being the first one to suffer that fate. Not really, I asked a friendly lawyerly type I live with and he gave me a 45 minute lecture about him and why he was impeached. You ask one question of a lawyer and they go all legalese on you 🙂
