Republicans Upset at Release of US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

Read Time:1 Minute, 10 Second

The Taliban released U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl yesterday, after nearly five years in captivity, as part of an exchange for five Afghan detainees, The Associated Press reports, and the republicans are unhappy about it, claiming the US has compromised their own policy on not negotiating with terrorists.

Bergdahl was reportedly able to walk and was in good condition. He is expected to first transfer to Bagram Air Field, in Afghanistan, then on to the United States. Bergdahl’s recovery “is a reminder of America’s unwavering commitment to leave no man or woman in uniform behind on the battlefield,” President Barack Obama said in a statement.

The sole prisoner of war from the Afghan conflict, Bergdahl was reportedly held by the militant Haqqani network in Pakistan’s northwest tribal area, reports The New York Times. The circumstances of Bergdahl’s capture have remained murky, but a January video showing the P.O.W. gave the American military hope that he was still alive. Qatari officials acted as intermediaries between U.S. officials and the Taliban to work out the deal.

The five Taliban prisoners were being held at Guantanamo Bay; they will be transferred to Qatar, living there under a one-year travel ban and other security restrictions.

Some congressional Republicans are complaining loudly that the president is bound by law to request permission from the congress before negotiating with terrorists.  The WH and congressional Democrats naturally disagree.

I wonder if they got all butthurt when missiles were being swapped when old St Ronnie of Raygun was in office. No you say, well let them be butthurt and waste the energy, it will not go well for them.

It makes no difference what POTUS does it is wrong in the eyes of Republicans. They are so desperate to try to cast dispersion on him they would blame him for the Civil War except that he had not been born yet.

No matter he hadn’t been born Bill, he could still be blamed for it. POTUS could find the cure to cancer and AIDS and they would say it’s all wrong because big Pharma won’t be getting any money anymore. They think the dude had some kind of TARDIS so he could make up a birth certificate and announcement to allow him to become president. No conspiracy is too weird for them.

As though bashing Obama for doing what they have bashed him for not doing weren’t enough, Right Wing Bloggers and even some in the military are calling for the court martial of Bergdahl for, as one blogger puts it, being a “stank-ass hippie” and a probable deserter.

Yes, that’s right, there is no bottom. No bottom whatsoever

I saw a couple comments yesterday on freep sites, that this was all planned out months ago so he could take away attention from the IRS and Benghazi scandals happening. Like I said, no conspiracy too strange for them. Fuckin idiots.

The Rethugnicans will stoop to anything to complain about the Obama administration. That they would denigrate this humanitarian move is not surprising. It’s only an extension of their stated desire that, “It’s more important that Obama fail than for America to succeed.”

If anyone in Bergdahl’s family has voted Republican, it is unlikely they will ever do so again.
