Another Passenger Plane Disappears From Radar

What’s happening to our once friendly skies?  First it was Malaysia flight 270, and then, just one week ago, Malaysia flight MH17 was apparently shot out of the sky, killing all 298 aboard.  Now An Air Algerie flight has disappeared from radar on a flight from Burkina Faso to Algiers, the official Algerian news agency reports.

Air navigation services lost track of the plane 50 minutes after takeoff early today, last sited at 1:55am GMT, the agency said. There are 110 passengers and six crew members aboard the Boeing MD-83, the Wall Street Journal reports.

“In keeping with procedures, Air Algerie has launched its emergency plan,” the Algerian news agency quoted the airline as saying. The flight path of Flight AH5017 from Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African nation of Burkina Faso, to Algiers was not immediately clear. Ougadougou is in a nearly straight line south of Algiers, passing over Mali, where unrest continues in the north. The plane is chartered from Swiftair, and the Spanish airline has confirmed it has been unable to establish contact, the BBCreports.

‘ Kind of puts things in perspective doesn’t it? In some parts of the world artillery, shoulder fired rockets, and radar guided missiles are the weapons of choice for the mass murder of innocents.

I hope someday STAR TREK teleportation is made real. How wonderful it would be to able to travel around the world, without getting stuck in traffic on the highway, boarding a train, or putting up with the dangers and hardships of air travel!
