From Raw Story:

A Florida teen assured his friends the gun he was playing with had its safety activated moments before he shot another teen in the back.

Officers said the boy, who is 14 or 15 years old, stopped at the front yard of a Miami home to show the handgun to some children gathered there.

“Don’t worry, it’s on safety,” the boy told his friend as he waved the weapon around.

The gun fired and struck 15-year-old Ronniesha Hart, who stood up immediately after she was knocked to the ground by the bullet.

“She was standing up, she was talking,” said her sister, Ronniya Hart. “She was like, ‘You all don’t cry be strong, don’t cry.’”

The girls’ mother said Ronniesha teased the boy about the gun just before the shooting.

“She said, ‘What you gonna do with that little gun anyway?’” said Janita Boatman. “She said the guy told her, ‘I’m gonna show you what I’m going to do with it,’ and when he got up, that’s when he shot her in the back.”

The boy asked the other children not to call police but then ran away and was later taken into custody.

The victim remains in stable condition at an area hospital, but she is expected to make a full recovery.

“Stop playing with guns because it don’t have eyes, and if it’s on safety it can still go off,” Ronniesha said.

The shooting remains under investigation, but police do not believe it’s accidental.

Too bad they don’t say that before pointing it at their own head. That’s called “chlorine in the gene pool.”
