God came down to earth specifically to reward the most pious, saintly man he could find.

After choosing the winner, he offered him any reward he chose.

“I’ve always been afraid of flying but would like to visit Hawaii. How about building a bridge there from California so I could drive?”

“Even for me, that is not really possible. The structure would be larger than anything on earth and would require special laws of physics for it to be strong enough to withstand the stresses. Then the environmental impact alone would cause major disruption of the ecology of the entire planet. Isn’t there anything else you would like?”

“Hmm, how about reconciliation and a permanent peace in the middle east? After all, those people are closer ethically and religiously that they care to admit. That would benefit the entire planet, too. Not just those who want to drive to Hawaii.”

“Would you like that bridge to be two lanes or four?”

i like that one too, james. i would just expand on the second request a little, “how about reconciliation and a permanent peace anywhere on earth.”

i think the answer would be the same.

Am I the only one who isnt’ sure what the author is saying? Is he saying by way of illustration that Israel is covering up reports of dead children in Palestine? If so I disagree completely.

No, I don’t think so Mike. I think he is trying to say though that the media is on Israel’s side and is not focusing sufficiently on the deaths of the Palestinian children and civilians. Personally, I think there is plenty of blame to go around. pennyjane believes that historically that little piece of land belongs to Israel but I do not see where that is correct except by religious dogma. That land has belong to any number of of groups of people over the time that humans have walked the earth. After WWI we and the allies gave them that land that they wanted because it had a religious significance to them and they wanted it. It just so happened that the other countries around that area also lay claim to the same land by virtue of religious dogma.
The Palestinians were pushed to the small area they are on. Now these radical Muslims have been trying since WWII to drive the Jewish people out of that scared religious area. That’s not going to happen. So the hate, distrust, and fighting goes on. We have helped Israel by giving them access to some of our finest weapons and foreign aid because we also see Israel as a sacred, religious ground (at least our government does), plus they are a democratic government in an otherwise tyrannical hodgepodge area of the world. Unfortunately, the Islamic people tend be a radical sort of people, at least some of them, are and they will most likely continue this fight for the next couple of hundred years. The problem though is that there are a lot of non combatants who are getting killed, especially on the Palestinian side because Hamas, the terrorist group, tens to hide among the non combatants and fire rockets at Israel’s non combatants.

I think the media is spending far too much time focusing on the collateral damage. It’s pure sensationalism designed to turn the viewer or reader against Israel instead of spending more time reporting on the reasons behind the conflict, like Hamas launching dozens of missiles a day into Israel.

bill. please don’t put words in my mouth. i don’t think i have ever offered an opinion as to the legitimacy of the jews claim on the land. i have tried to project what i think is the view of the jews, especially when people seem perplexed as to why they think they must live on that particular little section of the earth….just tying to help out with what i think is the profound ignorance of those who think it’s just an arbitrary, inexplicable choice of real estate….or that it is just about religion.

james suggested that we could solve the whole thing by just giving the jews new mexico or arizona…that they wouldn’t be surrounded by millions of people who want nothing better than to see them dead, that everyone would welcome them with open arms….i respectfully submit that that thesis is just about as far out there as sarah palin thinking she’s getting instructions from God about impeaching the president, or that ham nutcase’s perception of creation.

if the jews set up a homeland in new mexico they WOULD be surrounded by even more millions of people who would want nothing better for them than to see them all dead….and that would include a vast majority of christians and a fair sprinkling of jews. thinking that people would sit still for that is well…..way out there somewhere. i think the jews have spent enough time out in the world, away from their natural, indigenous homeland to recognize that fact, it’s as plain as the noses on their faces. jews take that concept, “seeing all the jews dead” pretty seriously for some odd reason.

so…i suggest, when weighing their options, which are all bad, they see only one road to survival…not so much as a religion, as a people. they rationally and pragmatically decided that if they were going to have to make a last stand, let it be in the land of their birth as a people.

there is a context…you just have to open your eyes and take your fingers out of your ears to recognize it.

I’m so happy to hear that you’re totally confident that your opinion is so much more rational and better-explained that others. I admire self-confidence, no matter how misplaced it is. 😉

i guess i do fit in pretty well, there seems to be no lack of self confidence anywhere around here….and, no small amount seems misplaced, at least in my opinion.

No worries on speaking your mind here Pennyjane. It’s welcomed and no one will be nasty over it. Passionate perhaps, but not insulting, at least not the family. There’s no accounting for those darn outsiders 🙂

Israel has the right to defend herself from the Hamas terrorists. The Jew haters try to convince the world that they target civilians and children intentionally. No evidence for that at all. I believe Hamas hides behind the innocent. Bastards.

okay, i was wrong…i can’t help you at all.

mornin’ james.

i might be able to help you some. for the jews, it seems, the answer to your first question is twofold. first, through jewish eyes, that particular place in the middle of millions of people who want nothing more than to see them all dead looks pretty much like anyplace else they’ve ever seen. two: they feel a historical connection to that particular place where everyone wants to see them all dead….so, historical connection is as good a reason as any given that wherever you go you seem to find yourself in the middle of millions of people who want nothing better for you than to see you dead.

i think, and i may be wrong, that just about anybody might have a vociferous penchant for wanting to deny a homeland to people who subscribe to such homeland a prime directive like: all you guys gotta be killed, dead.

i may not like it much, but i can see their point.

For far less than we’ve spent propping up the Israelis, we could have given them New Mexico or Arizona. Either one would be much like where they are and no one would be saying, “kill them all.”

They could invent some history connecting them to the American Southwest. It wouldn’t be any more crazy than what they’re doing and, let’s face it, there are lots of wackos in the USA that would support that kind of myth.

Then the deaths of Israeli children and adults are not significant?

I really don’t support either side there.

I still ask, why would anyone decide to make their homeland in the middle of millions of people who want nothing more than to see them all dead?

Why would people who feel that having a homeland is vital to their identity and well-being so vociferously deny that to someone else?
