Silly House Majority Whip Plays Coy on Subject of Impeachment

Read Time:51 Second

The Republicans, the dumb ones, which appears to be the majority at times, are playing coy about their impeachment plans. Reluctant to move forward for fear it might actually fire up the almost always apathetic Democrat base, they instead decline to give straight answers on whether of not they would impeach President Obama.  House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La) is one of those people.

Even in the relatively friendly forum of Fox News Sunday, Scalise deflected three times when asked by host Chris Wallace whether impeachment was on the table. The first two times, Scalise said the White House was pushing the impeachment narrative to boost fundraising and rally its base, though he declined to say whether the GOP would actually pursue impeachment as some of its most conservative members have urged.

When Wallace tried for a third time to elicit a direct answer, Scalise changed the subject once more, responding, “The White House will do anything they can to change the topic away from the president’s failed agenda.”

i was flipping through the cannels over the weekend, landed on one of the c-span channels that was re-broadcasting hearings from back in the watergate days being held by the house judiciary committee considering the impeachment of president nixon.

i thought i’d been transported to another dimension. the contrast between the republican speakers at that time and those of today was like night and day. i was particularly struck by an opening statement by then young representative william cohen of maine. he was serious, he was honest, he was tortured by the prospect. he talked about how impeachment was a last resort, how…no matter how it turned out was going to tear at the very soul of the nation…what an awful thing it was. my goodness, he sounded like an adult.

contrast that to today’s republicans who see impeachment as nothing more than a political stone to toss. these people have no more emotional maturity than the average fourteen year old boy and the intelligence of a barbie doll. they are oblivious to the damage that even the prospect might do to the republic, they don’t even have a concept…they are completely unconcerned with the health of the republic, they can’t see beyond the next fundraiser, their whole approach begins and ends with their own selves, nothing beyond.

back in the day there was a republican party that was conservative and vital to what made us great…today the republican party has disavowed conservatism in favor of reactionary doctrinarism. today they have nothing to offer, they have become a pathetic caricature of themselves. back in the day the children were there but there were more adults in the room…today the inmates are running the asylum. they have already done enough harm, when will we all just say “enough already” and demand at least sanity from those we send to govern us.
