Texas Man Shoots Six Execution Style

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

Guns are everywhere and people with guns are everywhere.  This is a frightening paradigm indeed and is virtually exclusive to America, with civilized nations having sensible laws controlling the proliferation of weapons with no other purpose than to kill people.  Yesterday Ronald Lee Haskell, with his legally obtained weapons, shot and killed seven people in a Houston suburb for no apparent reason other than he could.

The details are jarring indeed: Prosecutors this morning alleged that Ronald Lee Haskell, 33, shot his seven victims in the head, execution-style, after tying them up; four children and two adults are dead, with a 15-year-old survivor having sustained a skull fracture. She reportedly played dead until Haskell left the residence, then called police and told them he was bound for her grandparents’ home, KHOU reports. The Chronicle notes police arrived at that location just before Haskell did, and used spike strips to disable his car; he surrendered hours later.

Constable Ron Hickman today said that Haskell came to the first home “under the guise of a FedEx driver wearing a FedEx shirt,” though it’s unclear if Haskell works for FedEx. He “gathered up the children that were here and awaited the arrival of the parents. … We now learned that Mr. Haskell was married to a relative of the residents of this home.” Haskell is estranged from his wife, who does not live in Texas. According to police, he is facing multiple capital murder charges. A neighbor tells the Chronicle that those killed were a “close-knit … Mormon family,” and the paper dug up public records that showed Stephen Stay, believed to be a local real estate broker, and Katie Stay lived in the home.

That young teenager who saved the rest of her family by playing dead, is hero in this story. Poor thing is going to need some serious counseling after all this and the woman who was killed, it was her sister’s ex did this. Next up the usual suspects will be crowing that if only there was a good guy with a gun, the bad guy with a gun blah blah blabbity blah. AYUP, you all know it will happen but since it’s Friday they’ll be taking the weekend off from commenting.

Truth is he would probably have used a baseball bat instead if he had no access to a gun.

Too many guns in America certainly but too many baseball bats too.

Mind you, you’ve more chance against a baseball bat than a gun eh?

But this guy obtained the weapon legally. What law would prevent “idiots” from getting a gun. How to you determine who is an idiot. What reasonable law would have prevented this tragedy?

And yes mentally ill do commit horrific crimes with guns. Can you educate me on where your data is coming from?

Would this guy have not killed these people if he couldn’t have gotten a gun? Anyone who could execute children (or anyone) is mentally ill. More than likely he would have just used another weapon?

Do you personally have a firearm in your house? Don’t answer that because if yes then you are a hypocrite and if “no” then criminals know your house is a softer safer target.

How do we know that it wasn’t because of that one game of Pac-man he played in 2001? Shouldn’t we think about shielding our 30 year old adults from video game violence?

Okay, now I feel really callous. It’s a tragedy like any other but I’ve been so oversaturated due to personal research of mass shootings that I’ve probably been desensitized. Each of those 5 had their own lives, hopes, problems and dreams, all gone for little reason. I hope the families and friends of the victims can go some closure on why this happened.

I understand what you meant Linh and I expect others will as well. A terrible tragedy and idiots blaming it on video games. What a country America has become.
