Scottie Dogs and Muslim Displeasure

Read Time:2 Minute, 35 Second

Malaysian politicians have criticized the Commonwealth Games for including ‘Scottie Dogs’ in the opening ceremony. They have called the use of the Scottish Terriers in the opening ceremony ‘disrespectful’ and ‘shameful’.

scottie dogs

The ‘Scottie Dogs’ were walked in during the opening ceremony wearing little coats bearing the names of all the competing countries.

“Malaysia and all Islamic countries deserve an apology from the organizer,” said Mohamad Sabu, the deputy president of the opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party. “This is just so disrespectful to Malaysia and Muslims – especially as it happened during Ramadan. Muslims are not allowed to touch dogs, so the organiser should have been more aware and sensitive on this issue.”

“It is hoped this incident can teach other Western countries to be more respectful in the future.”

Dato Ibrahim Bin, a far-right politician, called the dogs “shameful” and “offensive.”

Well  ‘HELLO Malaysia! HELLO Mohamed Sabu and Dato Obrahim Bin! Could I ask you both a question? Were you born without a brain or has it taken you years of practice to arrive at your current idiotic and laughable perspective? Just asking chaps’

Let’s advise old Mo and Dato of the facts of life shall we?

Firstly. The Commonwealth Games were held in Scotland. Scotland is – at the moment at least – part of Great Britain. Great Britain is a western country with western values and it, quite frankly, couldn’t care less about Islamic values because Islamic values don’t actually matter in Scotland any more than than they do in any western country. We, of the west, have our values and it is OUR values in the west that count not yours.

Secondly. Western countries haven’t actually a problem with respecting diversity, it is Islamic countries that have a problem with respecting diversity so don’t tell us we should learn to be more respectful in future quite simply because we have no respect for morons like you.

Thirdly. We couldn’t give a monkeys (I thought I’d bring in another animal for the hell of it – even if monkeys aren’t actually animals but you get my gist?) whether Muslims can’t touch dogs during Ramadan, before Ramadan or after Ramadan mainly because we couldn’t care less about Ramadan.

How many times have we got to tell Islam that it isn’t important? It may be important to Muslims and that’s fair enough but it isn’t important to non-Muslims and there is no reason on Earth why non-Muslims should not put nice little coats onto Scottie dogs at The Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony with countries names on the coats.

If doing so upsets Muslims then TOUGH!

“It is hoped this incident can teach other Western countries to be more respectful in the future.”

No Mr Sabu. It is hoped that complete idiots like you will one day get it into your thick skulls that Islam has to learn to fit into western countries and become accepting of western culture. If it cannot then there is no place for Islam in the west.

Scottie dogs are a damn sight more acceptable than your version of Islam Mr Sabu.

Live with it.

I am going to have to go with Norman on this one, not only about the Muslims, but a number of other nationalities, religions, and ethnic groups. First of all, no one ask a Muslim to touch the little dog. It is but a symbol of Scotland. It is getting downright difficult to do or say anything anymore without offending someone. In the spirit of the experimenting with freedom of speech, and with actions being considered a form of speech, Muslims may run into more problems in this country and others who value freedom of speech. They have gone nuts over people who have mentioned or depicted their prophet in anyway and leveled death threats toward people who do. Yet, we are allowed to poke fun at just about anyone or anything else without said threats taking place. If it were not for our, or Britain’s believe in freedoms the Muslims would not be in either country. My suggestion would be that they learn something called tolerance or stay the hell out of countries who are tolerant. The little Scottie dog had not been brought out with an intent to offend them just as if they were holding an event in their country they would allow women from our country to walk around in shorts and halter tops. It is always about offending them and not about the freedoms that we have established. And, I am really sorry, but a country that cannot fly a plane out of its country with out the damn thing just going POOF!, should not be talking anyway.

bill. i think what i’m hearing from you and others, myself included, is not so much about the infusion of new things into a culture which can enrich and enlighten it, but an objection to having the old culture replaced. the islamists, i’m singling them out on purpose, don’t seem to want to be included in the cultures to which they immigrate, but rather to replace those cultures. Norman’s example is perfect. YOU may not want to touch a dog during Ramadan…but i do, and i don’t care if you don’t, that doesn’t amount to a hill of beans to me and if me touching a dog during Ramadan offends you, then go to mecca, isn’t that where you’re supposed to be anyway?

i think they’d find us all a bit more welcoming if they didn’t want to do away with us. if i got all up in arms about every little thing that offends my sensibilities….i’d be up in arms all day every day….kind of like an islamist i guess.

You are exactly right pj. I guess it comes down to something Norman had said in a post a while back about the Muslims immigrating to Britain but then complaining about not being able to fully carry on with all of their original country’s customs. If you wanted to be a Pakistani, Iranian, Saudi, or whatever, stay the f**k there. Do not go to another country and try to turn it into what you just left. Personally, I love dogs and I really do not give a rat’s ass if the Muslims like them or not. Do not expect me to hide my dog just because you have some screwed up religious notion about dogs. It just so happens that in the northern part of the world dogs have been very much part of man’s culture for about 10,000 years which is longer than your friggin’ prophet has been around.

Just another “you must tolerate our intolerance” bigot. Jeff Dunham’s puppet Achmed comes to mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOXCAKL9ESc

I have been absent far too long. I don’t like Muslims either, and it’s more an historic observation, based on their centuries of hatred and persecution of all that aren’t Muslim. Of course the same could be said for Christians, and I don’t like them either. Ah well. We all have our human failings.

My own non-Christian thing is Judaism. I keep wondering, is there something that could be done to offend me as a Jew as some Muslims apparently are offended by the dogs? Well, I suppose they could decorate pigs in such a way. But wait a minute, pigs are unkosher, but they are no more unkosher than are dogs. In fact, pigs are a lot closer to being kosher than are dogs; pigs at least have cloven hooves – it’s only that four stomachs thing that they lack. Israelis do see pigs as dirty – one of the worst insults you can perform is to call someone a “pig”! But to be honest, I suspect that holding the Olympics during a well-known holy day would be more insulting! And yes, we would probably make a big stink about it. Dogs? Seriously?
I would say that they should just get over themselves, but it’s already been made clear that they can’t! Am I displaying prejudice? Almost certainly so. Oh well. I do know that I have some prejudice against Arabs and those who are out to destroy all Jews – you know, fundamentalist Muslims, for instance… So sue me – just don’t behead me…

marsha. i am not jewish but i celebrate purim with avengance. i LOVE purim, i love everything about it. every year i have a feast of purim here in the community…..food, costumes…rattling on like drag queens at a showing of..oh, what’s that one about the raging transvestite from Transylvania?…hissing and booing at the bad guys and cheering like mad for the good guys. i make a big deal out of it.

next year, though…i’ll put out a memo……no costumes for you pigs! at least pretend you’re kosher!

I give up and refuse to Google it: what’s “purim?” 🙂

purim is a celebration that comes to us from the book of ester in the old testament. haman…the bad guy, launches a plot to kill all the jews in the persian empire because he had a beef with a jew named mordechai. problem is that mordechai happens to be the adopted father of the queen…who is not known to be jewish herself….but, between the two of them they turn the tables on the bad guy who winds up on the gallows himself.

ester is a great read if you like twists and turns and palace intrigue. it’s really good if you like seeing the bad guy get his comeuppance.

HAPPY PURIM, Y’ALL!

oh, the party….everybody dresses up in costume and there is a feast…eat, drink and be merry. during the party somebody (me) reads the book of ester….the other partiers are to hiss and boo whenever haman’s name is mentioned and to cheer wildly for ester and mordechai.

since there are no jews in the community, and not many jews even remember this particular holy day anymore…i don’t let anybody know that one of the costume rules is that you cannot dress as royalty. i keep that a secret because each year i come as queen ester….what they don’t know won’t hurt them.

while i wouldn’t be interested in having salacious intercourse with muslims, and i can certainly respect their sensitivities…..until they get over this “convert or die” insanity….i’m not particularly interested in making them feel good about themselves either.

it seems rather counter productive to me……to force a bunch of non-believers into your religion….what could they do but pollute it’s purity…..lead it down an alternate path? maybe that’s one reason they seem to not be able to get along with anybody, even each other…so many aren’t there because they believe, they’re there because they’re afraid.

if there was one Islamic guy left in the world, it seems, it wouldn’t take him a week to murder that infidel in the mirror.

Penny I must rather unhappily confess that I dislike Muslims and I wish I didn’t as I’m not a person with many prejudices.

i’m with you mike…and i’m not particularly proud of feeling like i do….i wish i could feel different. every time, though, that i think i’m softening up some i read about some new calamity they are perpetrating on the human race and i find myself back at square one. why are they so ungodly murderous?

The hate gets really intense with me sometimes. When I find myself cursing at the TV because they’re reporting about someone the Muslims have killed today I know I have a problem.

Can’t say that I agree with you entirely, Mr. Rampart, but you do have a way with words. Perhaps satire?

As for sensitivity to the feelings of Muslims, one must remember that more than 4 1/2 percent of the population of the UK is Muslim – nearly 6X the percentage as in the USA.

As gun-addled and insensitively libertarian as many of us Yanks are, we’d probably take into account the feelings of nearly 5% of our population, if we were conducting a public event. 🙂
