Who is God Anyway?

As you may or may not have noticed by now, I am not a fan of organized religion. It’s nothing more than a tool used by government and the church to manipulate and control those who are foolish enough to believe in it. It’s the manner in which to hijack independent thought and spread ignorance by making people think that there is some sort of entity watching over us every minute of every day, like some sort of cosmic hall monitor, recording and dissecting our every thought and action and rendering moral judgments about them so it can be determined whether or not we spend eternity in Heaven or Hell. Not that I give a shit either way.
It’s kind of silly when you think of it, because if God exists, do you really think he would have any concept of what it’s like to be human? To make mistakes? To have to deal with everyday temptation? To have needs and wants? I don’t know about you, but if I were omniscient, things like that probably wouldn’t mean a whole lot to me.
Let me put it to you in a couple if ways you can understand- next time you go to a museum and browse the art, take a moment to look at the picture. Do you notice the little things like the brush strokes, the texture of the canvas, or maybe even the color palette? Or are you one of those people who don’t give it a second thought and whisper to yourselves, “Ooh! What a pretty picture!”
Because that’s what being God is like- He doesn’t focus on the small details. He’s a ‘big picture’ kinda guy. Humanity is pretty much akin to a bunch of dust bunnies as far as he’s concerned. It’s only our hubris that makes us think otherwise. After all, to an ant, we’re pretty much the end all and be all of their existence. We can kill them or let them go on their merry way. It’s not as if we stop what we’re doing and follow them around all day, taking notice of every single thing they do. Why should we? It’s not like they’re gonna be doing something so exciting that rates a reality show. We have Big Brother for that.
Think of what our lives would be like if God really WAS watching over us all day, every day. Do you truly believe that people would be acting the way they do today? Would we be having religious wars, crime, brutality, women getting raped, children being molested, and Sarah Palin acting like an asshole? Because I seriously doubt it. Hell, if I were the big guy, I would vaporize Sarah before she even opened her mouth. Just on general principal!
To be honest, I can’t help feeling bad for the guy. He keeps getting so much crap for things that are done in ‘his’ name. One of my favorite idioms is “it’s God’s will.” Really? So somebody getting hit by a drunk driver and dying in the accident was God’s work? Just like a woman who gets raped and ‘blessed’ with a baby is a divine gift? Is that how it works? Because if it is, then God is more fucked up than I thought.
The truth is, God has nothing to do with anything. He’s not the problem- WE are the problem. Humanity has to stop blaming other forces for their issues and start accepting responsibilities for the things we have done. God isn’t going to clean up our mess or save anyone, I don’t care what it says in the book of Revelations.

God is pretty much whoever or whatever you want it to be. It just depends on what you choose to believe. What I refer to as ‘God’ is an entity- unquantifiable, but still present in everything. That, and he has the most fucked-up sense of humor EVER.
Ian Somerhalder is a god, Sam Heughan is a god, Michael Fassbender is a god. I could keep going on but it might make some of the other menz jelly I am not including them on my list. Ok, all of you reading here and commenting are also gods. Far as that one God type, no one is unless everyone is their own.
Elvis is a god, as is Roy Orbison, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, and others. I must apologize friend Jess that with the exception of Fassbender, I’ve never heard of any of those guys.
OMD, Barbra is the epitome of a god in my book. that woman can do nothing wrong. Ian Somerhalder is the actor on Vampire Diaries and Sam Heughan is the Scottish guy playing the main male highlander character from the new series based on the Outlander book series. He is a god with a nice ass.

Greg, God is anything anyone wants it to be if it brings them peace during turbulent times, or helps them sleep when things go bump in the night. When I ask everyone to allow me to have my own belief system, or rather not have one I expect them to respect it. In turn I respect their belief system also. We are all, at least for now anyway, stuck on this third rock from the sun trying to make it the best way we can.
Yo! Looks like the brother is trying have his cake and eat it too. So you say there is a God, although there is no evidence, but no organized religion for which there is ample evidence, or are you saying OR sucks but God doesn’t? I’m confused though I liked your post man.
God is David Bowie when I was 14 years old. God is my wife who, for some unfathomable reason, decided to save me from myself and teach me not to be entirely self destructive all of the time.
God is my daughter who brings me so much joy because, having had a hand in her existence and upbringing I finally got something right.
God has nothing to do with religion – the religious just hi-jacked the thought. The ‘thought’ being ‘God help me!’ when things are bad. It actually means ‘Oh crap I’m in trouble now’ until you aren’t and hopefully the world is a rosy place again.
God is merely a word to describe great happiness – thank God! so to speak.
God, as an entity, has never existed.
Well, if I’m wrong and he/she/it has and does exist then, frankly, he/she/it can just sod off!
Humanity are more than capable of fucking everything up without God sticking his/her/it’s oar in thank you very much.
