The Soviet States Of Europe?

Read Time:4 Minute, 14 Second

Do you know in which country Communism first began? I bet you don’t. Do you know in which city Marx and Engels were in when they first wrote the Communist manifesto? I bet you don’t. (If you do – without Googling please – then I am very impressed)

Communist-Manifesto

Well, actually, Marx nicked it off Engels, buggered off in the general direction of Russia and, as a result, The Czar and his family ‘got the chop’ and, entirely due to to the aforementioned country and city, the Cold War that almost saw human kind wipe the planet out in the 1960’s eventually began.

The city and country where Marx and Engels started all this Communist malarkey?

Manchester, England.

I kid you not.

Manchester, just down the road from my home town of Oldham.

I was actually born in Manchester you know. I might have known. The city that housed the creators of The Cold War was the same city I was bloody well born in. Typical!

Anyway – albeit President Putin is behaving worryingly badly at the moment (Ukraine today! Tomorrow Lithuania! – or something) – The Cold War isn’t overly cold any more. Certainly it’s a wee bit frosty at present given Putin behaving like Attila The Hun (or was it Ghengis Khan? Perhaps I mean Stalin. Oh you know what I mean) towards any nation on Russia’s borders he wants to kind of reclaim but, for now, we have other things to worry about.

Political vacuums in Europe tend to be a bad thing. WWI and WWII sufficiently illustrate the point.

It isn’t so much that there is a political vacuum in Europe per se – The European Union are more vacuous than vacuum – but the behaviour of The European Union is actually creating a political vacuum in Britain that is being cheerfully filled by The United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP). This may, or may not, eventually become a more global worry. I suspect not as, despite their positioning to the ‘right’ in British politics they have a long way to wander before any sensible comparison to Nazism can be made and I doubt that will ever become even a remote possibility.

However, more of a concern for the world in general should be the behaviour of The European Union. Whilst its behaviour is almost certainly seen as ‘of little consequence’ to the USA for example, the behaviour of the Soviet Union was ‘of little consequence’ until WWII ended and by the 1950’s Communism was hiding under lots of beds.

Great Britain declined to join ‘the Euro’ which, of course, is the unit of currency of the EU. As a result, whilst even France and Germany struggle in comparison to Britain because of their Euro membership, Britain is beginning to prosper again – albeit after 5 years of ‘austerity measures’ required to recover us from the monumental financial mess left by our last Labour Government – purely because we kept our own financial currency. The British Pound.

As a result of our success the EU has now sent us a bill for £1.7 billion pounds (I have no idea what this is in Euros nor do I care about ‘monopoly money). In other words, the EU is ‘using Britain as a cash cow because we are doing so well’.

Prime Minister ‘Call me Dave’ Cameron has said we aren’t paying. Even Labour opposition leader Ed ‘Gromit’ Milliband (who would deny our democratic right to a referendum on Europe should he be, god forbid, elected at our next general election) has agreed the demand from the EU is ridiculous.

The response from the EU is predictable. “You will pay by the deadline or be fined for late payment”.

The European Union is by the hour, let alone the day or week or month, taking on more and more the appearance of the old Soviet Union when all the people within the Soviet Union had to ‘give everything for the good of the Soviet Union’. The fact that what they gave was their quality of life was irrelevant. If it was required by the Soviet Union then it must be given regardless and to question it would treason against the Soviet Union and off you jolly well go to your local Gulag.

Why should the USA care?

Well. assuming the British public are not really insane enough to elect a Labour government thereby ensuring our democratic right to a referendum on our membership of the EU it is highly likely that we will vote to leave. The EU will not readily accept this decision. What will they do if it comes to pass? I’ve no idea but I suspect they will behave not unlike the old Soviet Union and threaten dire consequences and stamp their collective foot.

Would they go further and actually consider some form of military EU force to bring us into line? Surely not!

Watch the EU with caution America.

It is not what you think it is and not what it may seem to be.

Just saying and don’t forget, I was born where Communism began. I know whereof I speak.

Norman you would make a good republican. Each day you remind me more and more of one of our rather strange conservatives. Nothing personal 🙂

I once considered being a publican but my wife pointed out putting me in charge of a pub would be kid in a candy store time 😉

I am considering going into politics funnily enough…working on my manifesto right now 😉

There you go then Norman, making up nonsense again. The EU has as much resemblance to Communism as Conservatism to good sense. You don’t even have your facts straight. Silly Norman.

Hello Anon old thingy! How are you? I worry if you don’t pop up 😉

The EU is governed by often unelected civil servants in Brussels.

The Soviet Union was governed by ‘civil servants’ appointed by the Politburo or whatever it was called.

There is a similarity albeit the EU is clearly not communist. It is the similarity in their approach to other member states that is the concern.

Still, assuming we don’t get lumbered with Labour at least we’ll get to vote ourselves out of the damn thing.

I wonder why Labour wouldn’t give us the right to actually make a democratic decision over Europe? Odd really. Are they afraid of the people?

Anyway Anon – don’t leave it so long in future! I’m a worrier you know x
