5 Good Reasons Why You Should Adopt a Cat

Read Time:2 Minute, 41 Second

I know what you’re thinking, dear reader:  we are a dog friendly site; dogs, not cats.  Cats, are well, you know: felines.  Despite all of that we felt it was time to give our cat loving readers a nod, so thanks, to PetMD, here it is:

If you’ve been feeling lonely or simply like something is missing from your life, you’re right. Everyone needs a special someone and perhaps that someone is an adorable bundle of purring fur.

Not convinced? PetMD has five indisputable reasons you should get a cat.

#5 They Smell Good

Not only that, but as an added bonus, there’s no need to bathe them — cat’s do that themselves. This is also a lucky thing since cats aren’t fond of being bathed, and you’re probably attached to your skin, so it’s a win-win situation. In addition to smelling good, their fur is silky and soft and fun to pet and snuggle with, especially on cold winter nights.

#4 Avid Hunters

If you’re a bit of an adventurer, or always dreamed of going big game hunting in the Serengeti, then a cat is the perfect companion for you! Vicariously live out your dreams through your cat (from the comfort of your own home) as she chases bugs, toy mice (and real ones), dust bunnies, and those red laser light devices. Also, as an added bonus, having a cat means you’ll live in a mouse-free oasis.

#3 Great Entertainers

Cats are great for the busy person who works long hours. They don’t need as much attention as a dog, and they are more than capable of entertaining themselves with toys, boxes, drawers, and the like. Give a cat a window (and window sill to perch on) and she’ll spend hours watching the goings-on in the Great Outdoors, plot taking over the, world and generally enjoy making the peons on the other side of the glass jealous of her glorious coat and pretty whiskers.

#2 Couch Potato Companion

Think about it. A cat spends about 15 or so hours a day sleeping. This means you don’t ever have to feel guilty when you laze about on the couch eating a tub of ice cream and watch TV all day. We’ve all done it. A cat loves to veg out with you. It’s fun for them. Also, you don’t have to take them for walks. Ever.

#1 They’re Amazing

Seriously. A cat is pretty much the most popular pet in the world (there are even more cats in U.S. households than dogs). They’re fun, adorable, loving, and make you super happy. Get a cat and you’ll never regret it. Cats are amazing pets and fantastic companions that and will always love you, even on a bad day.

There you have it. The top five reasons why you should get a cat, so head on down to your nearest shelter and pick out a new best friend!

Meow. It’s Monday!

Cats are : beautiful, lethal, neurotic, loving, aloof, independent, dependent, vicious, arrogant, timid, clever, dumb, soulful, alien, friendly, narcissistic, amazing, annoying, fascinating and, ultimately, incredible.

Well, all of mine over the years have been some – and in one case, all of the above.

They can be black, white, black and white, ginger, grey, tabby, tortoiseshell, long haired, short haired and so many many many other things.

Oh! I nearly forgot. Maximus Spittimus just reminded me. Cats are also Gods.

I just moved in with my girlfriend. She has 2 male cats about 2 years old and I have a female cat about 12 years old. One of the male cats, Marty, follows her around as much as I let him but she’s still not used to other cats. It’s only been a week and a half, hopefully they’ll adopt each other as time goes by. Cats tend to be territorial so we’re keeping our fingers & toes crossed. It’s a fun household with 3 cats. Cleaning litter boxes however, is not a favorite pass time of mine. Playing with a laser light with the boys is hilarious. My female calico cat still cuddles with me at night! Whew!

Shortly after moving in with my then future wife, her cat developed the habit of biting my toes at very inopportune moments if they appeared to him from under the duvet. The fact I still married her says something about the fortitude of my toes if nothing else 😉

All five excellent reasons for adopting a cat! I, unfortunately, have one excellent reason for NOT currently adopting another cat: my current cat would disown me, and she probably make the whole house stink with her marking. But I certainly have a every intention of adopting another cat after Myya’s gone!
