The following letter from Richard Brunt of Victoria, British Columbia was making the rounds on Facebook after the mid terms.  My daughter thought I would appreciate it and I found it pretty much spot on.

Many of us Canadians are confused by the U.S. midterm elections. Consider, right now in America, corporate profits are at record highs, the country’s adding 200,000 jobs per month, unemployment is below 6%, U.S. gross natinal product growth is the best of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCED) countries.
The Dollar is at its strongest levels in years, the stock market is near record highs, gasoline prices are falling, there’s no inflation, interest rates are the lowest in 30 years, U.S. oil  imports are declining, U.S. oil production is rapidly increasing, the deficit is rapidly declining, and the wealthy are still making astonishing amounts of money.
America is leading the world once again and respected internationally-in sharp contrast to the Bush years.
Obama brought soldiers home from Iraq and killed Osama bin Laden.
So, Americans vote for the party that got you into the mess that Obama just dug you out of?  This defies reason.
When you are done with Obama, could you send him our way?
I question the accuracy of some statistics quoted like the 200,000 jobs a month, and 6% unemployment, but they do reflect official government reports.   Overall, however, I found the balance of these comments to be painfully accurate and it caused me to reflect once again on the direction our country is headed.

Canada can sod off! We want Obama in Blighty thank you very much!

As for voting for the Republicans in small droves given the low turnout as I’ve already said, American’s are, I guess, as pissed off with mainstream politics as we Brits are. Simples.

Unfortunately, it’s not just the voters; it’s the whole country that’s f*cked up. The fact that our nation can decide that money is equal to speech says something about our nation, and it’s not very good! And the fact that we haven’t impeached any of these nut job Supreme Court judges goes back to how nutty the Congress – that the voters theoretically selected – is!
And corporations are people! How on earth did that happen? Theoretically, the United States is NOT majority rule for everything. But the majority of the Supreme Court seems to run an awful lot! We seem to be running on the thought that the US will continue to improve. I don’t see that happening! The US has decided that people don’t matter; corporations and money do. So I suppose that in the sense that corporations continue to get more money, maybe the US is continuing to improve :-(. I define improvement a lot differently!

Even the good folk in Canada think American voters are fucked up.

Appealing to bigotry, hate or jealousy trumps facts. Forget the growing economy and job creation. We have a Kenyan Muslim Socialist in the White House. Republicans will vote republican no matter what. We could run Hitler. Plenty of people are easily swayed by crap I mentioned above. Enough to win an election. That those reasons in no way supercede their real interests doesn’t matter to them.
I frequent several financial sites. The message boards are filled with nuts demanding government stop hounding poor BP over the Gulf oil spill. They don’t want to admit that if BP doesn’t pay the damages the taxpayers will. My party exploits this nuttery. it works everywhere.

My problem with Mr. Obama has never been his policies as compared to Dubya. I think the worst part of his presidency has been that it proves that this country was in no way ready for a black president. As bad as Bush was he did not elicit the hatred for the office of president that Obama has. Regrettably, his race has made him the great divider, not his policies. I found Mr. Obama to be weak in some areas I wish he would have been stronger, such as environmental issues, but our congress wouldn’t have backed him anyway. For many people he was wrong just to wake up and breath air in the morning.
