First Republican Exercise in Futility: Repealing ObamaCare Again

Read Time:1 Minute, 15 Second

Unfortunately for America, this January the Republicans will control both the House and the Senate.  House Speaker John Boehner and soon-to-be-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell offer up a joint column explaining their plans. “For years, the House did its job and produced a steady stream of bills that would remove barriers to job creation and lower energy costs for families. Many passed with bipartisan support—only to gather dust in a Democratic-controlled Senate,” they write. “Senate Republicans also offered legislation that was denied consideration despite bipartisan support.”

So, they’ll start with these bills, which include measures authorizing construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, encouraging employers to hire veterans, and restoring “the traditional 40-hour definition of full-time employment, removing an arbitrary and destructive government barrier to more hours and better pay created by the Affordable Care Act,” according to the conservative mouthpiece the Wall Street Journal.

“Taking up bipartisan bills aimed at helping the economy that have already passed the House is a sensible and obvious first step.” And after that? They offer a laundry list of other issues on their agenda:

  • Repealing ObamaCare
  • “Focusing, first, on jobs and the economy”
  • Simplifying the tax code
  • Improving the education system
  • Lowering the national debt

“The skeptics say nothing will be accomplished in the next two years,” they conclude. “As elected servants of the people, we will make it our job to prove the skeptics wrong.” Click for their full column.
