Forgotten Musical Treasures-Chapter One

I’ve no idea whether this, my latest wizzard wheeze, will be approved of by Mike and Co at MMA but, I can’t help it really, when I get an urge I just ‘go with it’ so to speak. Well, clearly, if said urge is illegal I don’t as the possibility of sharing my prison cell with a tormented and  frustrated gay body builder is a possibility that terrifies the life out of me thus proving that, generally speaking, even for lunatics like me, the law actually works in terms of – what’s the word I’m looking for? – oh, yes, that’s it, ‘deterring’ me from breaking them – well, at least those that would result in a small cell shared with said tormented and frustrated gay body builder.

My latest wizzard wheeze is this. If one sort of ‘cruises’ through You Tube one occasionally stumbles across a song that makes one say “Oh bloody hell! I’d forgotten that! How did I ever forget that?” or words to that effect. Well, in fairness, if you are American there probably aren’t so many ‘one’ thingy’s in the singular person as that’s a sort of ‘posh’ ‘upper class’ English thing – which I’m not of course!

So, to arrive at my destination, I have been ‘cruising’ You tube and I have re-found so many unbelievably magnificent songs that I am flabbergasted that I had forgotten they even existed – I can only put it down to my ageing mind which never functioned that well before it was ageing really truth to tell.

I would like to occasionally take you all back to a time when this song or that song just blew anyone with even a modicum of musical taste away. Admittedly I may be referring to those of reasonably eclectic tastes as those who confine themselves to punk or blues or jazz or rock or reggae or, God (or the deity of your choice) help you, disco may be so ‘into’ your musical genre that any other genre is anathema. If so I do apologise for you being idiots. It is hardly my fault that you are.

Not that you are, necessarily, an idiot for liking disco by any means. You are only an idiot if you are closed to other genres entirely. As I’m entirely closed to ‘disco’ my point is already sufficiently illustrated 😉

Now I promise faithfully that my intention isn’t to regale you with Sex Pistols and Green Day tunes ad nauseum. Quite the reverse actually. Whilst notable longevity singers such as Bowie and The Rolling Stones may appear from time to time, most ‘hidden treasures’ tend to be somewhat related to my ‘One Hit Wonders’ contribution fairly recently – not that they are necessarily ‘one hit wonders’ of course as the chosen song may be one of a number of ‘hits’ they had.

My choices are not just eclectic but, in my opinion, songs that may well have been forgotten when, frankly, they shouldn’t have been.

I suppose, more to the point, I am genuinely interested in whether you share my love of the chosen songs or whether you think they are crap. If you think the latter then bugger off and listen to your disco eh? 😉

Perhaps the odd contribution to MMA of this nature is a little too personal and may never see the light of day – or, more accurately, the light of the internet but, it is a contribution close to my heart and, if MMA deem it suitable, I will be eternally grateful. If not then sod it, I’ll open another Bud and move on.

Remember Danny Wilson? I’m ashamed to say I’d forgotten him. Remember ‘Mary’s Prayer’? I’m so glad I found it again.

I’m in a state of grace just listening to it. What about you guys?
