Rudy Giuliani Blames Obama For Cop Hate

Read Time:4 Minute, 13 Second

We’ve had four months of propaganda, starting with the President, that everybody should hate the police.

I know that age catches up with those of us who survive. Still, it is disheartening when my memory of something so momentous has completely vanished. I simply do not recall President Obama saying that everyone should hate the police. I don’t even remember the President implying anything like that.

What makes it even worse, basic internet tools are failing me. Google has been my friend for a long time. Now, the search engine I call upon most often, the internet tool that shores up my failing memory has also failed me. It is as if those inflammatory words were never spoken by the President of the United States.

That blood on the hands starts on the steps of City Hall in the office of the Mayor.

Patrick Lynch, President of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, New York City, December 20, 2014

It gets worse.

I do not remember at all what must have been a searing political moment. The call by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for the assassination of police officers went right by me. And, once more, Google fails me. I find no record of anything remotely close.

I thought I was close, at one point. I was able to find extreme language directing violence against hated enemies. A Democrat was the speaker. But it turned out to be a clear miss. Representative John Dingell (D-MI) was not speaking about police officers. He hadn’t even talked recently. He was on the floor of Congress nearly 4 years ago. And it turned out he was just quoting other prominent public figures.

He was too much the gentleman to name names. I am not burdened by such limitations, and I found some research by Brian Buetler of Talking Points Memo. So I thought I would help out.

  • “People are looking towards the second amendment remedies and saying my goodness, what can we do to turn our country around.”He didn’t mention the person advocating violence, but it was the Republican candidate for Senator from Nevada, Sharron Angle.
  • “The first thing we need to do is take out blank.”Actually, that was also Sharron Angle, specifying the target of her second amendment remedies. She was advocating the assassination of Harry Reid. “The first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out.”
  • “I want people in blank armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back.”That was Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN), advocating violence on a political issue. “I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back.”
  • “I want to kill blank with a shovel.” Actually, that was Glenn Beck. The recorded words as spoken by Mr. Beck were: “I want to kill Charlie Rangel with a shovel.”
  • “Every night I get down on my knees and pray blank will burst into flames.”That was Glenn Beck, who actually said, “Every night I get down on my knees and pray Dennis Kucinich will burst into flames.”
  • “Our nation was founded on violence. The option is on the table. I don’t think that we should ever remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms.”The person Mr. Dingell was too polite to name was a Republican candidate for Congress from Texas, Stephen Broden. What candidate Broden actually said was, “Our nation was founded on violence. The option is on the table. I don’t think that we should ever remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms.”
  • “Don’t retreat, reload.”Mr. Dingell did not want to mention Sarah Palin by name.
  • “If ballots don’t work, bullets will.”That came from the chief of staff of then Florida Republican Congressman Alan West.

Google turns out to be at least a little functional. I found that I had quoted Representative Dingell shortly after he spoke almost 4 years ago.

After all those prominent conservatives asked their followers to aim their firearms at their political enemies, Democrat Gabrielle Giffords was shot and nearly died in a supermarket parking lot in Arizona. Several citizens who had gathered to meet her died in the gunfire.

I do remember writing about it. I suggested that those calls for assassination had nothing to do with those killings.

I know Rudy Giuliani must have disagreed. I just don’t remember it, and I cannot for the life of me find any statements by the former Mayor accusing Sharron Angle, Michele Bachmann, Glenn Beck, Stephen Broden, or anyone on the staff of Alan West of causing those murders.

Maya Angelo once remarked that growing old is not for sissies. Life gets hard when the mind begins to age.

One of the most terrible things for me is my total lack of any memory of Rudy Giuliani’s integrity.

I will say that Rudy, with the help of the officers of the NYPD, cleaned up the city. There was a time when tourists weren’t safe walking down the streets, and crime was happening on almost every corner. Giuliani changed all of that. Today NYC is one of the safest cities on the planet. So, not everyone is all bad.

He did do that but the cops think Giuliani took too much credit for that sea change.

I can’t add anything but my agreement to that post — just brilliant.

I have to agree Glenn.

“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light. ”
I do not believe Dylan Thomas meant what Giuliani, in his own raging, appears to think he meant.
DT was referencing his own father’s increasing blindness. Giuliani has already descended to that status, albeit a different kind of blindness.

Truth hasn’t mattered to we republicans since Nixon came into prominence. And generally people will seek out whatever agrees with their biases so we exploit that by telling them whatever bullshit they want to hear. Rudy understands how to exploit fear and ignorance. He’s been a good mouthpiece for our side.

He does understand exploitation Joe. After 9/11 all he talked about was how he saved the world from 9/11 and how it would happen again if he wasn’t around to save the world from another 9/11.

Let’s remember, all of those Republican you mention are pandering to the religious reich, those that are not actually of the RR themselves.

When has deviating from the truth (some would say “lying” but I am too PC for that) been an obstacle to any of those people?
