Rudy Giuliani-Ferguson Case Should Never Have Gone to Grand Jury

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

The fact is there was no evidence to charge former Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson with any crime.  He didn’t “murder” anyone with malice, instead he stopped the threat of a criminal who had just committed two felonies and posed a threat to the community.  Some people, however, will never accept the overwhelming amount of evidence that served to convince a grand jury of 12 people.  One of the few determined voices crying out in defense of the beleaguered officer is former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

(The Week) Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Sunday doubled-down on his argument that high crime rates in black neighborhoods are to blame for tension between African-Americans and the police. And he argued that the case against Darren Wilson, the white police officer who killed Michael Brown, should never have even gone to a grand jury.

“I don’t see how this case normally would have even been brought to a grand jury,” he said on Fox News Sunday. “This is the kind of case that, had it not had the racial overtones and the national publicity, where a prosecutor would have come to the conclusion that there is not enough evidence to present to the grand jury.”

Last week, Giuliani came under fire for telling a black panelist on Meet the Press that there would not be an outsize police presence in black communities “if you weren’t killing each other.”

I read the Giuliani article carefully. I’ve never been here before and don’t know the personalities but I sure don’t see where the author of the piece did anything untoward. What is Mr. Moore seeing that the rest of us aren’t seeing? In my world the editor of the blog published a short article, with commentary, about a statement made by the former mayor of NY. What’s wrong with that?

I’ve gotta go, Mike. The day you start quoting Rudy Giuliani is the day I know you’ve lost your perspective.

As your defenders have said, you are entitled to your opinion, but as I see it, you make your case in this situation in ways that are indefensible.

My best to you. Goodbye.

Wow man. Didn’t Mike give you the opportunity to write here? Is this the way you repay him because you don’t like what he writes or publishes? I say good riddance man. Friends like you no one needs.

One cannot defend everything that Giuliani, or anyone, ever says. That does not mean that they can never be right. I’m confident that even a nut job like Pat Robertson has said something that is indisputably correct. It’s the “even a stopped clock is right twice a day” concept.

Even so, when it comes to a person’s most cherished beliefs, facts will seldom matter.

As I said in my list of universal truths, “Man’s most precious possessions are his delusions.” People will surrender their careers, property, family, even their lives before they will give up their delusions.

Still, I am going to miss Jim Moore. I hope he reconsiders as I am confident I am not the only one.

This is a case where one who dares to discuss race in direct terms becomes a racist. I’ve been following and commenting on this website for five years and never once have I gotten the impression that Mr. Scott is anything but an honorable man, and to suggest otherwise is just wrong and show you don’t know him.

Narrative is more important than facts or critical thinking to those exploiting Brown’s self destruction for their civil rights argument. Always good to hear your analysis my friend.
