Who Do You Think the Cleveland Mayor Asked To Handle Tamir Rice Investigation?

Read Time:57 Second

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson decided it was in the best interests of justice to hand over the investigation of 12-year-old Tamir Rice’s shooting to the county sheriff’s office. He told reporters why Sunday, referencing a 2012 state Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s case where police chased and shot an unarmed couple.

Mayor Jackson said:

I don’t think the state attorney general handled the East Cleveland shooting properly. It wasn’t done in a way that I think gave me confidence that this would have been done properly. So that’s why we turned to the county. [Cleveland.com]

The 2012 shooting resulted in criminal charges against officers and a seven-figure settlement to the two victims’ families.  Insiders claim the evidence in this case was slim.

Cleveland Police officer Timothy Loehmann shot and killed Rice on Nov. 22 while he was waving a pellet gun at passersby in a local park.  Police were not told it was a pellet gun by the dispatcher, even though he had that information.

The cop did what he had to do and what any of us would have done. You’ve not time for prayers when someone reaches for a gun. Cops have to make split second decisions. Don’t blame him at all.

Yes, the gun looked real, admittedly, but I saw the video. The police car raced up to the kid in the park and shot him immediately. It was a little kid, he didn’t look like an adult like Michael Brown. I do understand that police need to be careful or they will be shot but this incident looked hard to excuse. Perhaps a solution would be bulletproof glass in police cars? That way they could approach someone with the window only cracked down a half inch and ask him what he’s doing before shooting him…
