Talking Parrots Lead Firefighters to Blazing Home

I was once the proud ‘parent’ of about four parrots; big parrots.  While noisy, they are as smart as dogs and have a keen understanding of the world about them, as evidenced by the following little story.

(Newser) The fire department in Middleton, Idaho, says they’re smart parrots—and if they hadn’t been, they might be dead parrots. Officials say that when firefighters arrived at a house fire near Boise Friday night, they investigated cries of “Help!” and “Fire!” and, instead of the elderly woman they were expecting, they found a pair of parrots, KBOI2 reports.

A fire department spokesman tells NBC News that when no people were found inside the house, thermal imagery technology revealed the parrots on the table. The spokesman says both parrots were fine after being given oxygen—and after being taken from the building, the noisier of the pair started imitating the sirens she heard.
