Check Out the Best and Worse Graduate Degrees

Education is important, and the more education one has the better off they should be right? Not necessarily so, at least not in the case of graduate degrees as they all aren’t created equal despite the growing demand.
It’s graduation time again and Fortune asked Payscale to determine the best and worst graduate degrees. Salaries aren’t the only factor; the survey also took into account things such as job growth, stress, and satisfaction.
Here are the top five winners and losers, along with the median salary for each:
Best Graduate Degrees
- PhD, Statistics: Median salary: $131,700
- Master’s, Biostatistics: Median salary: $113,400
- PhD, Computer Science: Median salary: $144,800
- Master’s, Human Computer Interaction: Median salary: $115,200
- PhD, Physics: Median salary: $132,400
Worst Graduate Degrees
- Master’s, Interior Design: Median salary: $69,400
- Master’s, Educational Administration: Median salary: $77,100
- Master’s, Early Childhood Education: Median salary: $48,100
- Master’s, Criminal Justice: Median salary: $60,500
- Master’s, Reading and Literacy: Median salary: $52,300

Interesting, Mike. I must point out though that the relevance of those salaries depend an awful lot on where they are being earned. A master’s in Educational Administration in Greene County, Alabama would put you in the top 1% earning bracket of that county. Meanwhile, A computer science degree means you are just mediocre in New York, New York.
