Neil Young: Donald Trump Didn’t Have Permission To Use My Song

Read Time:1 Minute, 14 Second

Stealing someone else’s music may not be the best way to kick off your campaign for president of the United States, but that’s exactly what Donald the Trump, ringmaster of his own circus, did when he announced his laughable intention to run for president on, of course, the republican ticket.

The Donald’s auspicious entry into the republican clown car of candidates was accompanied by the well known rock classic, Rockin in the Free World.

Now that would be seriously cool music under most circumstances but for one tiny little detail: Neil Young wrote that song and Trump did not have permission to use it, and neither did anyone acting on behalf of his campaign.  The fact is, in typical, arrogant Trump fashion, no one even bothered to ask Young’s permission.

Anyone who follows music knows Neil Young wrote the song, so it’s possible that some people who watched Trump’s grand entry may have concluded that Young supports Trump.  Well, according to Mashable nothing could be further from the truth says Young’s manager, Eliot Roberts:

“Donald Trump was not authorized to use ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement. Mr. Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for president of the United States of America.”

Well I’m disappointed that Neil isn’t supporting Hillary but happy that he clearly doesn’t support The Donald.

In case anyone forgets Trump is a dedicated birther, and he’s been running for president for years.

I once e-mailed Tony Blair and suggested that instead of using ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ by D-Ream he should be honest and use The Sex Pistols ‘Anarchy In The UK’.

Strangely I received no response 😉

I get what you’re saying Jess. Trump is such a bonehead, or should I say hairhead?

Shit, meant to say the best one was Dropkick Murphy’s telling Scott Walker of Wisconsin, stop using our songs we literally hate you on Twitter. Raygun using Born in the USA. Can’t they ever use their own people like Nugent, Pat Boone.

These guys always do this without listening to the actual words in the songs. commander cuckoo bananas did it, Bachmann, Bible Spice, Our lady of perpetual victimhood trying to use Heart’s Barracuda without paying for the privilege. Below, Neil Young doing his thing.
