America: A Culture of Ignorance
The United States of America has a “culture of ignorance.” Around half of all Americans appear to feel no shame about that being so. In the south the total probably goes up to around 65 per cent, whereas in the north (and including California), it goes down to 35 per cent. It is a rough and…

[…] America: A Culture of Ignorance […]
So very well said. It’s so right to call it a culture, because it is a culture with its own iconography, its own vocabulary, its own mythology and a great sense of fraternal pride – and of course its own political party.
I’ve taken to watching alternate news and reading different sources of news and I’m overwhelmed at how little the public knows about what’s happening in the world. I’m amazed at our serial obsessions, our delusions and our lack of concern. Couple that with a hundred billion dollar effort to create a false view of the world and its history, and I don’t see a happy outcome for the US.
Hear hear!
I have dual citizenship with both the U.S. and the U.K. If I weren’t so darn old I would have to leave the country I served for over 40 years.
I live in Illinois; that’s the North, the “smart” part! That means we only have 35% of our population that thinks that it’s terrible that America is stupid! ONLY 35%! I just can’t understand how ANYONE can think it’s acceptable to be as stupid and unknowledgeable as a lot of us are! And the lack of realization of illiterateness is astounding! I like to think that I am more knowledgeable than some, but I know I am extremely lacking in world politics and geography and that bothers me, AND IT SHOULD! And I do try to keep up on science, and am
more knowledgeable than most, but that’s no excuse for locking myself out of additional knowledge and information! IN ANY REALM! It’s just totally inconceivable that anyone would refuse to accept technology and knowledge and education! And some of those same people use technology ALL THE TIME! We don’t believe science, but we use our GPS; we use our computer; we use the Internet!
And people don’t seem to realize that disconnect between words and actions, so they can say whatever they want!
It is shocking indeed Marsha. Like you I find it impossible to believe some of the things people do and say, almost always republicans but there’s a few dems in there as well.
