Gun Used To Kill Kathryn Steinle Belonged to Federal Agent

Read Time:1 Minute, 55 Second

It’s all about guns.  In America just about anyone can buy, sell or trade a gun, and that includes handguns, shotguns, and assault rifles.  One has to wonder where this will end as thousands of people each year are killed by guns.

This February 4, 2013 photo illustration in Manassas, Virginia, shows a Remington 20-gauge semi-automatic shotgun, a Colt AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, a Colt .45 semi-auto handgun, a Walther PK380 semi-auto handgun and various ammunition clips with a copy of the US Constitution on top of the American flag. US President Barack Obama Monday heaped pressure on Congress for action "soon" on curbing gun violence. Obama made a pragmatic case for legislation on the contentious issue, arguing that just because political leaders could not save every life, they should at least try to save some victims of rampant gun crime. The gun that Francesco Sanchez claims he found wrapped in a T-shirt on a bench belonged to a federal agent and was stolen in a recent car break-in, sources tell the San Francisco Chronicle.  If this is the case that agent needs to be severely disciplined for leaving his gun in his car.

Sources claim the firearm wasn’t the agent’s official gun, and ABC News reports that the Bureau of Land Management is investigating whether the gun belonged to one of its employees.

Sanchez, who claims the gun went off accidentally when he picked it up, killing 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder yesterday, the AP reports.

Sanchez has been deported from the US five times, and San Francisco’s decision not to turn him over to federal authorities for deportation when a drug charge was dropped in April has been strongly criticized by lawmakers and presidential candidates, including Hillary Clinton, who told CNN yesterday that the “city made a mistake, not to deport someone that the federal government strongly felt should be deported.”

At yesterday’s hearing, Sanchez’s public defender said the shooting appeared accidental and argued that the media should look at the “ubiquitous nature of guns in our society” instead of the immigration issue, the Chronicle reports.

What’s the solution?

Ban guns
Completely? No way to enforce completely and seemingly unconstitutional

Require all new firearms to fire only with owners biometric scan(Fingerprint etc). Maybe

Offer LARGE tax credits to turn in guns would be a starting place.

Complicated issue but just talking about how bad it is and offering no solutions is where we are stuck now it seems

Mike, the gun manufacturers and the NRA are simply wired into most of the politician’s brains. There will not be any major changes in the gun laws in this country in the near future. The fact that guns are one of the most dangerous aspects in American life today does not seem to matter to anyone anymore. The fact that I fear more being killed by a gun in the hands of some good old boy than in the hands of an actual criminal does not matter anymore. Guns are like pacifiers for people, they just have to have them whether they are necessary or not.
