Late night ABC talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel, was clearly upset by the cruel actions of the Minnesota dentist who tortured and finally murdered Cecil, a friendly Zimbabwe lion.
Kimmel said Walter Palmer, who owns a dental practice in Bloomington, had quickly become “the most hated man in America who never advertised Jello pudding.”
The talk show host wondered how a person could kill such a beautiful creature as Cecil, who was well known for his apparent ease around humans.
“Is it that difficult for you to get an erection, that you need to kill things that are stronger than you?” he said. “If that’s the case, they have a pill for that.”
Kimmel said he wasn’t opposed to hunting on principal, but Palmer’s actions were disgusting.
“If you’re some *sshole dentist who wants a lion’s head over the fireplace in his man cave so his douchebag buddies can gather around it and drink scotch and tell him how awesome he is, that’s just vomitous,” he said.
Kimmel showed photos of Palmer posing beside many other animals he had slain, including at least one illegal hunt, and said the dentist had “killed half of Noah’s ark.”
He became visibly emotional and teared up as he urged viewers to turn the lion’s senseless death into something positive by donating to the wildlife conservation group that had been tracking Cecil.

Well, I agree it’s sad and pretty contemptible, but all and all the Jimmy Jokes are a Straw Man argument. We have no idea why the man shot the cat and it’s fun to make reasons up, but it’s a straw man argument. Its too bad that there are so few lions left that the loss of one matters so much, but that situation isn’t the result of hunting.
Hunters actually, at least in the US and I assume elsewhere are the biggest supporters verbally and financially of wildlife management and preservation. National parks exist because of hunters and they’re not owned by Disney or Universal Studios because of hunters. But most of all, having all but eliminated apex predators, the wildlife would die off if humans didn’t cull herds as set aside protected areas.
The hunter here matters less than the loss of habitat and the poaching. That’s what is killing off the beasts. Population growth, development and sad to say increasing wealth in Africa. Is there room for wildlife when the only motivation humans have for allowing it is kindness nd mercy? Humans aren’t big on the kindness and mercy thing while truly only money counts. Maybe we should say Human Life Matters and not allow anyone to say All life matters?
