Toddler Finds Gun in Granny’s Car and Promptly Shoots Granny

Guns, guns, guns everywhere, and that’s just the way the Right Wingers like it, as well as the bought and paid for politicians, along their puppet master, the NRA and the huge, bloated gun lobby. Another day, and another tale of a good guy with a gun, who left it lying around because it’s well, just a gun after all. Everyone has one in America.
Police say a 2-year-old South Carolina boy found a gun in the car he was riding in and shot his grandmother in the back. Authorities were trying to determine Monday whether to file charges against the woman’s sister, who owns the gun.
Rock Hill police Capt. Mark Bollinger said the 40-year-old woman is expected to survive. She and the child were riding in her sister’s car on Sunday afternoon when the boy found a .357 revolver in the pouch on the back of the front seat and fired the weapon. Bollinger says the injured woman’s sister owns the revolver. Investigators are trying to determine whether the child was in a car seat or if any gun laws were violated.

Were any gun laws broken? Seriously? Besides the crime of reckless endangerment, leaving the gun in a seat pocket is a crime too. If one has no carry permit, the gun must be locked up. I believe, and in some states unloaded, out of reach and separated from the ammunition – but I’m not certain that failure to secure a weapon when children might find it isn’t also a crime all by itself. At least it should be! I’m willing to say that as many, if not more people are shot through stupidity and negligence than by movie theater berserkers.
I’m also willing to bet the gun owner won’t see the inside of a cell and that’s sad. Perhaps we should focus some of the obligatory outrage on the idiots involved and save the NRA dance for later? They may promote guns but they don’t promote unsafe handling or storage and the only organization I know of that talks about the safe storage and handling of guns is the NRA. That’s the problem with demonization, IMO. Even the devil speaks the truth now and then.
