The Residents of This State Deserve the Most Pity on Thanksgiving Day
Well, now you have it. As if things weren’t bad enough for the Buckeye state, they just got worse. As a matter of fact when it comes to the holiday Ohio is a real turkey.
We’re all aware of the many potential pitfalls of Thanksgiving: the political arguments, the drunk-uncle factor, the football losses. Now, the real-estate blog Estately has figured out, based on the confluence of such factors, just which states have the highest risk for terrible turkey dinners. The site looked at six factors in each state:
- the binge drinking rate
- the odds of getting salmonella from poultry
- how politically divided a state is
- the frequency of dietary restrictions imposed by vegetarianism and diabetes
- the Thanksgiving-Day losing percentage of local football teams
- and the proportion of local Facebook users planning to hit up Black Friday sales—meaning, perhaps, that they’ll leave the meal early.
Taking all this into account, here are the states whose residents deserve the most pity:
- Ohio, which scores worst in dietary restrictions and near-worst in politics and football. It’s also among the worst 15 states in all the other categories.
- Iowa, where drinking, politics, and diets are particular issues.
- Pennsylvania, which struggles with politics and diets.
- Arizona, where football odds are the absolute worst.
- Wisconsin, which takes top (or, rather, bottom) marks for too much drinking.
So, if you live in Ohio you now have yet another reason to be depressed on this Thanksgiving.

Wisconsin sounds ok to me 😉
Hm..Wisconsin? I’m not sure as I’ve never been there, although my “partner” is from there and she seemed to love it. Not sure what that says though 🙂
I loved in Mississippi for two years about 10 years ago, and that is the worst place ever. Alabama looks like California in comparison dude.
Ronnie, I must admit that we have always said, “thank God for Mississippi”, but here lately I am afraid we have slipped even a little lower than them. But, just to be fair, neither one could qualify as a great place to live unless you are a bible banging idiotic millionaire. Then it would not be so bad.
Full time now 🙂
Hey wait, don’t you live in Ohio part time now?
You are kidding right? Whomever came up with that should mosey on down to Alabama. We have absolutely, without a doubt the stupidest governing body and legislature in the country. No joke. The governor refused to expand Medicaid which would have brought in 1.5 billion dollars and added approximately 4000 jobs in the medical sector. They spent a ton of money defending anti immigration laws that were DOA because they were modeled on an Arizona law that the courts had already ruled against. They chose to fight a law suit over their female prisoners were over crowded and were being raped by the guards and, of course lost, and had the pay the plaintiff legal cost amounting to $2,5 million. Then this past year they were surprise to learn that the state was $270 million short of make their budget, The governor wanted to raise taxes and the legislature wanted to cut services. They did a little of both. 31 of 67 counties closed their drivers license offices meaning that people in those counties often had to drive more than a hundred miles to get a drivers license or a photo ID for voting. The taxes on cigarettes went up by 25%. Other examples were similarly directed at the poor and they still refused to consider any form of gambling for revenue. The Creek Native Americans who have two casinos in the state on their land offered the state $240 million plus they would start paying sales taxes in return for the right to open three more casinos in Northern Alabama. They were turned down. The fact that states on all four sides of Alabama having gambling of some type to which the state loses hundreds of millions of dollars each year does not seem to register with these idiots. I am sorry, Ohio might be bad, but right now Alabama qualifies as the stupidest state in the union.
We deserve all the pity we can get. Well, then again, maybe not. The people in this state keep putting the same idiots back in office.
You make a good argument Bill!!
