Why America Should Be Alarmed By The European Union

Read Time:3 Minute, 22 Second

The last time America had cause to be concerned by a ‘union’ it had the word ‘Soviet’ in front of it. Now it may well be that President Putin has ambitions to form a new Soviet Union but it is unlikely he will succeed and, even if he does, it will be unlikely that it will be remotely on a par with the last one. There is, however, a ‘union’ that America may come to be very alarmed by, the European Union.

Now, it is quite possible that the EU will cease to be, not unlike Monty Python’s dead parrot, within a short space of time. After all, it certainly appears to be heading for some kind of implosion with the migrant problem from Syria and so forth along with the difficulties in Greece financially to name but two of the problems that may lead to it’s ultimate demise.

There are, however, politicians throughout Europe who are determined against any odds to ensure the EU survives.

Now the EU was formed clandestinely. People, in Britain at least, were advised in the 1970’s that only a ‘common market’ regarding trade was on the agenda and in believing what turned out to be such garbage the people of Britain voted to join.

The principles behind the founding of the EU were actually quite laudable. Europe had suffered two world wars and, frankly, that was two too many, so, uniting Europe and thus ensuring peace in Europe just had to be a good thing didn’t it?

Oops.

The immediate problem that came almost instantly to the surface was humanity. Humanity are not to be trusted. Humanity like having ‘power’ and, as a result, the EU went almost instantly on it’s formation into a ‘power struggle’.

Like all huge behemoths whether corporate or political it became corrupt so quickly it almost took one’s breath away.

Unelected bureaucrats have held sway in the EU since it’s formation. They pass laws that they see fit to pass and expect all within the EU to comply. Failure to do so results in fines on the European country if the failure is nationwide. Failure to comply of an individual basis also results in draconian fines and sanctions.

The Soviet Union behaved like that and did far worse things. The EU is a relatively new ‘union’ and, up to now, the bureaucrats are ‘holding back’ as they are not yet confident that they can overcome opposition to their diktats.

If memory serves I think Stalin ‘held back’ until he knew he could not be overcome.

You can believe me or not as is your right America but believe this.

If the EU survives it’s current crises and the British people vote to remain in the EU then, in years to come, America will discover that it’s former and now largely defunct enemy in Eastern Europe will be as nothing to what the EU could become.

It is known that President Obama is coming over to Britain to suggest that we should remain in the EU. His advisors who. I assume, are advising him to say this are naive in the extreme.

North Korea are not a threat to world peace quite simply because, ultimately, they could be blown out of existence whilst the world continues to turn – not that I relish such a thing – and ISIS, whilst awful and horrible and terrible will, ultimately, be defeated because, frankly, even Russia would side with anyone to defeat them after they’ve ensured Syria is in their pocket.

The biggest threat to world peace in the not too distant future is the EU.

By all means ‘poo-poo’ me but do me one small favour? Save this article from MMA and, in let’s say, ten years, read it again.

Either the EU will have vanished in a puff of smoke as it deserves – in which case you were right to ‘poo-poo’ me or you will read this again and say “Bloody hell! He was right!”

I, for one, hope I will be proven wrong.

It’s about trade. Overall, recent surveys in both the U.S. and the 28-member EU suggest there is widespread support for a deeper transatlantic trade and investment relationship in most EU countries and among publics representing most of the European population, economy and exports to the U.S.

More than half (53%) of the American public believes deeper trade and business ties with the EU will be a good thing for their country, according to a March 2014 Pew Research Center survey. So, trying to convince the electorate that the EU is a bad thing won’t be successful. Sorry old bean.
