Why President Obama Is A Hypocrite

I am amazed! I am aghast! After briefly finding myself on LBC Radio pontificating away on my views on Obama stating Britain should remain in the EU and being somewhat talked over by host James O’Brien who, methinks, differs in his view of the European Union – I am a big big fan of James O’Brien incidentally – I managed to get my point across as follows.

This is not verbatim by the way but reasonably accurate.

Me : “I am a big fan of Obama, however, he will leave himself open to accusations of hypocrisy should he go ahead with his pro EU speech”

O’Brien : “Why? Are we not allowed to hear what the leader of the free world has to say?”

Me : “Of course we are! I fully respect Obama’s freedom of speech to say what the hell he likes. It is the hypocrisy of the statement I am at odds with”

O’Brien : “What hypocrisy?”

Me : “President Obama quite rightly defends the sovereignty of The USA. If The USA entered an America Union including Mexico, Canada, Brazil and all the South American countries, that would be akin to The European Union. Would The USA or Obama accept laws being imposed on them from a centralised government of this hypothetical American Union based in, say, Buenos Aires as he is suggesting we should from The EU Parliament in Brussels? I think not.”

O’Brien : “The USA would never enter into such an arrangement”

Me : “Quite! So as they, and Obama, value and defend their own freedoms and sovereignty how can Obama lecture us on remaining in The European Union thereby ultimately consigning our sovereignty to history within a couple of decades. This equals gross hypocrisy from The President”

James O’Brien, whilst failing abysmally to acknowledge the accuracy of what I said – well I think it is but, then again, I would as I said it – he did pay me a rather unexpected compliment and suggested I should appear on the BBC show ‘Question Time’. Whether he was serious or not I have no idea.

I still have a high personal regard for President Obama. The fact that he has, in this matter, emerged as a complete hypocrite does not alter my regard for him. In fact I doubt he really has the foggiest idea what he has actually said. His advisers have worked with advisers from Her Majesty’s Government, prepared a speech for him and he has just gone along with it.

Sadly, that suggests he isn’t his own man after all.

Or perhaps he is and does understand what he has said.

Sadly, that makes him a hypocrite.

Lose, lose Mr President.

Mind you, when I hear Boris Johnson actually agreeing with every word I said and making a statement of the same kind it does worry me slightly. It makes me uncomfortable.

How can I possibly ever find myself in full agreement with an Eton rich posh boy like Boris?

Oh eck.

Nice to see you here Mr Prez but, piss off home eh? There’s nothing to see here mate other than The Queen so, once you’ve had a chat with Her Maj tonight, Air Force 1 back home? There’s a good chap.

Well, he did say that it should be left to the voters of England. In other words, it is up to you and your countrymen. I would tend to agree with him on a couple of points in the sense that the Europe standing together would be a stronger trading union but, then, the British are a sovereign country and choose their own way forward.

As a proud Brit myself, I agree with you. I think the president was just pointing out the obvious. Some of Britain’s more Trump-like politicians of course are calling what he said some sort of “threat.” It was nothing of the sort.

Certainly not a threat in any way shape or form – now Hillary has said the same thing.

Only thing is, this could back fire badly on the ‘Remain’ camp as, traditionally, Brits do hate being lectured – even in a well meaning way – by ‘authority’.

Still, Obama is highly thought of over here by ‘both camps’ apart from the idiots in the ‘leave camp’.

Apparently the Le Pen lady is coming over from France now to add her two penneth worth….

At some point the Brits will have their say when the rest of the world have had there’s it seems! 🙂
