I read the New Yorker article by his biographer and it seems to support that. Like many on the lunatic right, he creates a world in his own image with everything he says and usually that world is a reflection of his own failings and shortcomings and vices. Everyone else is crooked, everyone else lies, everyone else is stupid and always wrong. I think the professionals call it “reaction formation” but to me, and to the man who actually wrote The Art of the Deal, he’s just batshit crazy and a pathological liar. Somehow that private reality is a comfortable place for the millions of vermin who infest him like lice.
I’m getting to where I can tell, now. He’s always lied, and I’ve always known it, but I’m learning some of his tells. If you watch this video closely, you’ll see he’s basically making up the story from whole cloth, as he goes along.
In writing classes, we learned a technique called automatic writing, basically a form of free association. Donald does what I will call automatic talking. He’s asked a question, and he sort of free associates an answer. If that answer includes fabrications, which most of them do, he kind of just conjures up the narrative he wants.
