Donald Trump: This Is Who I Am and There’s Nothing You Can Do About It

Read Time:6 Minute, 41 Second

resizeAs is the norm at my place on most Sunday mornings I get to sit quietly in my recliner, drink my coffee, and read the paper and MMA. I then go on to my online classes and email if I have any, and those are usually spam.

I have been doing this for about ten years now, give or take a year. Back in the early days I would take time to write something that would drive a guy named Chuck up the wall because there wasn’t but about 5 of us writing then and it was mainly in the comments section. Mike was doing most all of the initial posts himself.

These days there are other talented people helping Mike out and he has figured out that posting things from other, larger, online magazines with his own talented eye for what his readers like, serves us all well. While there are less original bitch sessions there is a definite uptake in things that are more newsworthy which I would have missed completely or for which I would have to spend a lot of time searching. So, my initial daily intake of news usually stops here in the morning and does not pick back up until evening on MSNBC.

However, I must admit that this year I have gotten tired of the political riff raff much earlier in the presidential rat race than usual. It started out with a bang with Trump making his outlandish statements about what he was going to do when he became president. Of course, that was before even he thought he would be a serious contender. In his mind he thought he would be in and out within a month or so just like always. But, along to the way to the marketplace something happened. Trump missed an off ramp.

You see The Donald has been running at running for president for a lot of years. Each time he exited pretty quick after getting his name out in public a good bit because his name was his brand and his brand was all he had to sell. Donald trump is, and always has been, a media hog. He loves to see his name in the media and he loves it when the media pays attention to him. There is no reason why he should not love because it, along with his father’s fortune, have served him well.

Prior to Trump being the media golden boy he was just another rich guy in New York City, a place where rich guys are a dime a dozen. Donald simply could not stand that. He wanted to be a rich guy but hell doesn’t everyone?  More importantly he wanted to be noticed. He is afflicted with excessive narcissism so there is no such thing as bad publicity. He simply turns bad publicity into a positive. In politics, it just has never served him well because the politically elite would just chuckle at him and take his campaign donations.

This time, as I pointed out, something went wrong. Donald did not change. In fact, Donald became the man he always wanted to be but in public this time. He took his television persona and walked it right onto the political stage and found a ready and willing audience. They loved him. It was just like his TV show where he would simply talk off the cuff and trash anyone and everyone and the people, or at least some of them, bought the whole package.

Why would a lot of people buy into the image. He was suddenly saying a lot of things that a lot of them wished they could say but were not allowed to say. Mexicans were illegals, rapists, murderers and should not be crossing our borders. He would build a wall to keep them out and he would deport all of the 12 million or so that are allegedly in this country. Wow! Man, this is what a lot of people had been wanting to hear.

Trump was the best man to do that because, you know, if anyone knew how to build a wall it would be him. I mean, you know he knows about building things. And he was going to stop all of this importing stuff from China and other places and, of course, he is an expert in that because he negotiates with the Chinese all time, and he is the best negotiator there is, so he is a natural. Great! We love him more now.

He went through the Republican candidates like prune juice through a geriatric ward. Something had snapped. The normal political things suddenly no longer applied and none of the traditional political strategies worked anymore. He defamed women, minorities, the military, immigrants, and what became known as his base loved him for it. Then came an awakening for he and the Republican Party. He was actually going to win the nomination.

One could almost see him saying under his breath, “Now, wait a minute folks, I was only poking fun at you and you took me serious.” Suddenly, he realized that he was actually in a real power seat and not one that his daddy gave him and it was up to him to live or fail with it. It also dawned on the Republican Party that all of the outrageous things the The Donald had said was now theirs to bear. “And there was trouble in River City,” sang the Music Man.

Then Donald had to contend with a general election. He had to deal with all the God awful things he had earlier said during his primary run. The Republicans began to squirm under the pressure. Donald, who loves the idea of having power, was liking the power began to throw his weight around until, … a lot of Republicans began to run away. There were threats of disowning him and not funding him from the RNC. Suddenly, maybe there was a wrong way for the most powerful person to say things. He changed campaign managers and there was going to be a change in him. He didn’t understand that complimenting our biggest enemy was not in his best interest.

So, now, he has changed team members again and they are trying to pivot again. In America being a good pivot man is a good thing if you are in the NBA, but if you are in politics, it is called flip flopping. Maybe we should not round up all 12 million illegals and deport them because (Trump’s primary political advisor) “some people” have said that if they are here and paying taxes, “and they must pay taxes” it may not be the best thing to deport them all.

(ROAR ….  ROAR….. ROAR)

“I mean, they will be deported but they can come back if they are good people”

Uh Donald that is known as a double pivot and is called traveling. Foul. Uh oh..

So now, here he is again. And so are the Republicans. Donald has crawled in bed with the Alt. Right and a new campaign boss. He is probably going to violate the three second rule for pivoting in the lane too long without getting off a good shot, and this too will backfire on him.

Here are some words of advice for Donald and the voters. Donald, stick with your plan next time. Look for the exit ramp and get off while you are hot. No one cares for a loser. You are choking worse than Mitt Romney who you keep making fun of … see it is not as easy as it looks.

So voters keep in mind Donald showed you who he was when he started the campaign. Remember what Dr.Maya Angelou told Oprah Winfrey: “When a person shows you who they are, believe them, the first time.” Donald is not going to change. He has been this way for 70-years, what makes you think he is going to see things, or do things differently now?
