How Smart Are Americans Really?

Read Time:5 Minute, 14 Second

I sit in my recliner each night watching cable news wondering “how in the hell has this country survived this long without blowing itself up?” Then I settle down a bit by telling myself that it will all work out by election day but I really do wonder about the lack of intelligence of my fellow Americans.

OK, I will acknowledge that I may not be the sharpest pencil in this conglomeration of people that call themselves ‘Mericans, likely not even close, but, just how smart does one have to be to understand that Donald Trump simply should not even be a nominee for POTUS much less a serious candidate?People must be sleepwalking through this election cycle. Donald Trump is as fraudulent as a three dollar bill.

I realize that others have said basically the same thing but the fact that he is now running neck and neck with Hillary is going to make my head explode. According to the polls less than half the people are actually picking up on his constantly changing positions, when he actually has a position, and that is a scary thought. The fact that he is running a fear mongering candidacy and does not even understand the real issues is scary enough but the way he purports to resolve issues causes his base to salivate  and gives me heartburn.

The man does not yet understand that as a presidential candidate words have meaning and consequences. He’s talking about blowing Iran’s little boats out of the water because they were making gestures at the sailors on one of our ships is the reaction of a 5 year old spoiled brat. Anything that is the least bit out of kilter in the government he says will not or would not happen if he were president. Does he not understand that he cannot micro manage 4.8 million people so that none of them ever screws anything up?

He showed how little he cared about other people when he decided to go to Flint, Michigan, to check on the lead poisoning in the water without first coordinating it with the city officials. The people who work there are working people who are trying to cope with a monster sized problem. They still cannot drink the water that comes through their water system because of the lead content. But, here comes Donald to survey the scene, which has been a problem now for about a year and has lead to indictments of state officials.

He blunders into Flint, despite the mayor saying that she wished that he would wait for a scheduled visit so as not to interfere with city workers doing their jobs. He burst onto the scene and has his photo ops, goes to a church that has been instrumental in handing out bottled water and instead of praising their work begins a political speech. The pastor of the church stops him, which obviously embarrasses him, or at least it should, and tells him he was not invited there to give a political speech but hopefully to commend the church on its work, of which he was not even aware.

In true Trump fashion he puts out a child care program, daughter Ivanka’s idea, which lays out tax deductions for child care, and says that Hillary does not have one. This is odd because Hillary has had her family planning information on her website since her campaign started. Additionally, Trump’s tax deduction will benefit high wage earners more than it will the middle or lower income workers who need it more. But, I must say, Ivanka was really proud that she thought of how difficult it must be for people trying to raise children for the average person with the cost of childcare, as if she would have a clue.

Finally, there is the problem of Donald’s finances, which he has no intention of making public. It’s a good thing too because some of his associates would make the “Teflon Don” seem like a piker. After all, Trump international has something in the neighborhood of 500 business ventures around the world. Some of those associations are with people in other countries who have shady reputations, especially those in Russia. He also has ties to businesses in India, Pakistan, and Arab Emirates that are connected with the government’s. He now wants people to believe that he will abandon those ventures and let his kids run them and he will know nothing about them. Yep, his kids will be running his blind trusts and at no time will they ever discuss the business of Trump International or the business of the United States Government.

People, people, people, give me a break. If you truly believe that a “doting father” can go for a minimum of four years without he and his kids discussing their businesses, I will sell you a beautiful beach, waterfront home where you can see the Gulf of Mexico conveniently located in the Rocky Mountains. It is a yuuuuge deal. It’s the best deal you can ever negotiate. It will be the biggest and best deal ever. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Donald Trump has no ethics. He has no shame. The bar for him is set so low that the best limbo dancer in the Caribbean could not get under it if he dug a hole. His narcissism is so great that his head will likely explode and the sad part is that, according to the polls, some 40+% of the people are buying his B.S. While I think that Hillary will make a good president, even if you don’t, she is still miles and miles ahead of Donald when it comes to being qualified to be president.

Let me finish this little rant with a parting thought: we are coming to the end of eight years of what I feel has been a comfort zone. Even if I do not necessarily agree with everything that Obama has done, or has not done, I always felt comfortable that I could go to bed at night and the country was going to be OK when I woke up the next morning. I would feel the same way with Hillary. If Donald Trump gets elected I may never sleep again.

Trump may well win. The fact that he is even still in the race says all that needs to be said regarding the intelligence of a worrying number of Americans.

Mind you, we voted Blair in twice so we can’t really talk can we? 🙂

Blair was at least competent. You can’t say that about Trump.

P. Everts and Cherries, our hope lies within the next 4 weeks that enough of these people come to their senses and even if the do hate Clinton will they at least just stay home and not vote. I am somewhat like P. Everts, though I did not make it to ‘Nam I gave 4 years of my life to the Corps and have a vested interest in this country. You know, we survived Nixon, Reagan, and even Bush Jr., but I don’t think we could survive Trump.

I agree with every word – Trump terrifies me and I don’t live in America.

And yet, Bill, The Dickhea — er, Donald, is popular among the vast wasteland of ignoramuses posing as informed voters. I’m too old to move to another country and, having been shot at, mortared and gased by VC and NVA, I have a vested interest in the US and would likely need several throw-up pots should Trump ever make the W.H.
