Rampant Racism In The 21st Century

Once upon a time somewhere in America, the police shot and killed a black man apparently for the heinous crime of being, er, well, black. He was sitting in his car holding a book although the police claim he was holding a gun. The police have a slight problem here. Nobody believes them and, given the penchant for some police to shoot black people it is hardly surprising is it? Riots have ensued and a state of emergency declared. In the meantime the black chap remains, as far as I can tell, dead.

In Britain a young black chap was driving along minding his own business when the police stopped him. He was driving safely and legally with full insurance and all that malarkey.

A video that has since ‘gone viral’ as today’s vernacular puts it, shows a police officer shouting and screaming at him to get out of his car. Not entirely surprisingly the young chap remains in his car. I’m bloody sure I would if some demented policeman started screaming at me for no good reason.

He does, however, put the ignition keys on the dashboard and state he will not drive away. He also produces his documents for the police officer to see.

The police officer then proceeds to break the glass on the car windscreen with his baton before actually sawing through a bit of the car and dragging out the young black chap.

The end result of all this was the police equivalent of ‘oops’ as the young black chap was a victim of mistaken identity by the police.

An extraordinary number of primarily white middle class people have asked the question “Why didn’t he just get out of the car?”.

The answer, I believe, lies in something said by a black chap on the radio recently. I cannot quote him verbatim but it went something like this:

“When I went to university I was under the impression that everyone was routinely stopped and searched by the police. I thought it was just normal. At university I made lots of new friends who were predominantly white. I was genuinely amazed to discover that none of them had ever been stopped and searched by the police. Ever. By the time I’d got to university I couldn’t even remember how many times I’d been stopped and searched by the police and yet here were my new found friends, all the white ones anyway, who had never ever experienced this”

I fully understand, given my views on uncontrolled immigration, that my liberal credentials are, in the eyes of some, questionable and that’s fine by me as I’m not a liberal. Actually I’m nothing politically speaking. I have no ‘agenda’ whether ‘right’, ‘left’, ‘liberal’ or anything else.

I just believe in ‘right and wrong’. I believe in common sense and having the freedom of expression to say what I damn well think. I reserve the right to upset and offend – which is not the same as inciting hatred and violence incidentally.

I am puzzled and perplexed.

How, in the 21st Century, can black people still be treated differently to white people in supposedly civilised western democracies such as America and Britain?

If a black man has a gun then by all means shoot him if you can’t arrest him.

If a black man is in his car holding a book or is merely driving along quite legally then, Mr Policeman, stop being a racist bigot and stop killing or even assaulting people because they are black.

Slightly bizarrely, even black police officers, at least in America, seem to have the same mindset. Now that is just weird.

At least over here in Blighty it’s just a few white officers behaving like that.

Clearly George Orwell’s magnificent ‘Animal Farm’ hit the proverbial nail on the head don’t you think. Well, it did if you just juxtapose the lines a wee bit.

“Four legs good! Two legs bad!”

“White skin good! Black skin bad!”

We’re going backwards people and, if we don’t stop and sniff the coffee, it will be a long long road forwards again.

Black people are being accosted by police because they’re committing fucking crimes. Do you really think all America’s police are fucking bigots? All 900,000 of them? How incredibly stupid of you to make such a judgement based on click bait news headlines and sensationalized stories. Learn the facts and you can start at http://fbi.gov Table 43. Might surprise you if you really care.

Tim I followed your link. It was an eye opener. Everybody needs to read that although I expect a certain segment of the population would refuse to accept the facts.

The fact is the police don’t trust black people either. Both dynamics go back decades, and I don’t see it ending anytime soon.

All officers, excepting one, involved in shootings of black males, have been cleared by grand juries and no misconduct was found. Each shooting was deemed justified. The exception is the shooting of Walter Scott in North Charleston, South Carolina. It is wrong to assume that race is the only dynamic. Black people do commit crimes, despite what many liberals would have us all believe.
