Trump: A Disgusting Eternal Sophomore Who Should Be Voted Down For Ignorance Alone
by R. Joseph Hoffman
It is crushingly sad to think that there is a man running for the highest elective office in the world who has never read a Shakespeare play or a full book of the Bible; does not know what Muslims believe–or Hindus or Jews; does not know why there are three branches of government; has never wept at Mozart’s Lacrymosa or Molly Bloom’s soliloquy; has never read an essay by Susan Sontag or Emerson or Bacon or Montaigne or a poem by Neruda or Angelou or Dante; cannot define the Quantum or explain why the sky is blue or why man lost his prehensile tail. Everything people like me think is the coin of our intellectual universe–the stuff that defines us as being equipped to live in the given world of science and the arts is not just strange but unknown to this man.
This disgusting eternal sophomore should be voted down for ignorance rather than political views formulated out of that ignorance. I have spent my whole academic life as a champion of the humanities, science and reason, and a humanistic view of society. Doomsday is now. This election is not just a referendum on decency or political positions or special interests. It is fundamentally a referendum on the role you think ignorance should play in the twenty first century.

Wash, rinse, repeat. Okay for hair, not so good for humanity. Drumpf exemplifies fascism and arrogance borne of ignorance.
Ignorance is increasing. History is repeating. Not enough care.
You have, in two short paragraphs, summed up the ringmaster who is Donald Trump. Kudos. You should share this everywhere.
Ignorance has become a cause: a celebration of rudeness, bullying and intolerance of civilization. The most I can hope for is that it’s the death throes of a dying subculture and not the birth of the kind of horror we fought a world war to defeat.
Well said Glenn. Well said indeed.
We surround ourselves with monsters. We own the abyss. Sad.
This is an outstanding article. Thank you Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms Hoffman.
