Comparing Trump to Hitler is Giving the President-Elect Far Too Much Credit

People compare Trump to Hitler. This is rubbish. Hitler was self made, a real politician, stayed on point, was jailed for his views, and conquered vast amounts of territory. He was dangerous, absolutely evil, and we took him out (and his goons) because of this. Trump is none of these things. He’s an idiot. To compare him to Hitler is giving him far too much credit.

I’m part Jew and my daughter is mixed race. If I actually believed that there would be a chance of a race war, etc. happening then I’d follow in my both of my grandfather’s footsteps and sign up immediately. I certainly wouldn’t just post on FB about racism and etc., because Trump’s danger is not that of focused evil. It is from the puerile random shit that comes out of his head. Also, it’s just wrong to compare the privileged whites who voted Trump in to the people of Germany who were part of what was essentially a long armistice between WW1 and WW2. They had hyperinflation for a start. Nah – today’s Nazi alt-right are a pale imitation of the real thing.

The clear and present danger is their grotesque stupidity, which can now be played out on a global stage.

“Grotesque stupidity” – a perfect phrase for perfect idiocy. Der Drumpfmeister should be ripe for impeaching from day one.

But it’s that ferment I see as the danger. He’s the yeast that’s inoculated it, set it to fermenting and putrifying and God knows what will grow out of it even if he goes away.

The danger of Fascism, of totalitarianism in America has been written about, worried about since the days of Upton Sinclair and the Progressive Era, through Orwell and up to the present. Trump has obviously been a catalyst and a catalyst, once having started a reaction may no longer be important in terms of still being in power. In fact dead leaders, from Obi won Kenobe to Jesus, to the Hidden Imam, to John Birch are often far more powerful than living ones.

Trump’s machine has opened the tunnel by which inimical foreign powers can influence US public opinion as well and it’s going to be hard to close.

Well said. That door is going to be very hard to close.

Short and true and sad. Fact: Had Der Fuehrer died before September of 1939 he would have gone down in history as Adolf the Great. He pulled Germany out of the abyss and restored their economy, infrastructure and national pride. You won’t see Mr Donald doing any of that.

A unique way of looking at the comparison puts Godwin’s law to rest. The author’s position doesn’t end a discussion but should generate one.
