Thirteen Days: How Long Before a President Trump Starts A Nuclear War?

There is a scene in the movie “Thirteen Days” that everyone voting this year should have to watch several times before entering the voting booth. The scene, if it happened exactly this way, would have occurred on either October 26 or October 27, 1962.

The actor playing Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara and the Admiral of the Navy were in the operations room monitoring the progress of the Soviet ships heading for Cuba carrying nuclear missiles. While President Kennedy and his staff awaited word as to whether or not Nikita Khrushchev had accepted their counter offer to removing the missiles from Cuba, the Navy was monitoring the progress of each of the Soviet ships heading for the United States Navy’s blockade.

There was a tremendous amount of tension in the president’s office and in the operations room as the Soviet ships moved closer. Then a sudden cheer, and a release of that tension when the naval blockade radio said that the Soviet ships were slowing and turning around. That was short lived though when one ship did not stop, but kept steaming toward the blockade line.  The Secretary of Defense ordered the the American ship to hail it and let it know that a bargain had been struck, which it did, but the ship continued on. After all, who was the captain of the Soviet ship to believe, the Americans or his orders?

The Americans had concluded that the ship’s radio was out, or, among all of the ships, this one had not received orders to turn around, or was Khrushchev playing chicken with President Kennedy. The American ships had gotten within sight of the Russians and were sending signals via Morse code to no avail. The American captain asked for permission to try something else; something that seemed contrary to the orders of the president which was that no shots were to be fired without his express permission. But, the Secretary of Defense overheard the Admiral say something to the captain of the American ship regarding a “salvo.”

“What did you just say?” He screamed at the secretary.

“I said he could fire one salvo” said the admiral.

“Did you not understand the president’s orders that there would be no shots fired without his express permission?” The secretary screamed again.

“For Christ sake, they were just starburst shots over the ship to get his attention. We were not shooting at the ship.” The admiral replied.

By this time the secretary was livid and red faced. “How do you know the Russians are going to know that they were starburst shots? What happens if they misunderstand and start shooting back at us? Do you not understand that the fate of the world hangs on every word and every action each side takes at a time like this? You do not fire anything unless I tell you to, understood.”

Grimacing, the admiral said, “Understood sir.”

For all of you Trump voters this tension was there while negotiations went on for actually 15 days instead of 13 days, but can you imagine Donald Trump having the patience and skill to go through this and keeping us out of world war III, a nuclear war that will essentially destroy most of the earth? I can’t. His idea of  “When someone hits me I hit back harder,” just won’t work on the international stage. There used to be a saying in WWII, “loose lips sinks ships.”

When Donald Trump makes disparaging remarks about a people or their leader, or their country, they will not be as forgiving as his supporters or the American media. If he is elected president the “radical Islamic terrorists” will have enough material to raise a true army. His rhetoric will have proven that the radical clerics have been right about the United States all along.

We will become the Great Satan and Donald Trump will be our leader.

I’m wondering if he isn’t already our leader, the way it all revolves around him and his great bloated ego.
