The end of the year is time for all kinds of things like person of the year or this thing or that thing of the year.
My pick for stupid phrase of 2016 is “politically correct” It means nothing and never did, unless it’s there to dismiss something you don’t like when you can’t give a factual or logical reason and want to sound like you’re making a point anyway.
In many cases the scorned object or opinion doesn’t even exist. Politics are personal and individual so one man’s PC is another woman’s good thing which means that everything and nothing are simultaneously to be scorned or praised or ignored without cause.
So I declare this whole stupid thing finished, useless, over with and done as of January 1st 2017. You may not use it after that.

Same here! Hated it. As of 1/1/2017 I will no longer tolerate it in any form. That will be hard since I teach at one of the nation’s more liberal universities.
Excellent idea! I was never able to put a finger on why it was that I totally hated the phrase, but you nailed it!
