Trump Will Likely Sound the Death Knell For the ‘Shining City On the Hill’

It is the primary desire – part of the legacy if you will – of Presidents to alter the balance of powers and weaken the “checks and balances.” Sarah Vowell is always a great read. She is a knowledgeable historian, and a humorous and provocative author. In her books, most of which are on the Presidency, she describes in detail, how all holders of the office have worked to elevate the powers of that office for future Presidents.

Now we face what promises to be our worst President. A Fascist and a Narcissistic Sociopath. But people think he will be held at bay, by the limitations the Constitution places on the Presidency. They are wrong.

Our new Fuhrer is only a very small part of our problem. The Republicans control both chambers of Congress. They will soon control the Supreme Court. The latter of these, we’re told is a non-partisan organ, but we all know that’s an untruth.

But if none of that scares you, perhaps this might. The majority of the states now have Republican Governors. That means that there are enough Republicans in power now, to call a Constitutional Convention. Republicans – the American electoral minority – can literally rewrite the Constitution. And there would be nothing in law, for us to prevent them from doing so.

Now, even most Republicans would never entertain this option. But with the Despot in Chief manipulating and goading them on, it will happen before we even know it.

Before the election, I warned that Trump would attempt a coup of the U.S. government, similar to the one that Hitler enacted after the Reichstag Fire – the infamous “Enabling Act.” Everybody told me I was being ruled by fear, and that would never happen here. Well, above I have laid out just exactly how it could.

The difference between a Sociopath and everyone else is that everyone else has a “line in the sand.” A moral barrier they will not cross, even if they have the power – and perhaps motivation – to do so. Even the most tyrannical and despotic of American politicians would never attempt something as despicable as what I have laid out here. But Trump isn’t like everybody else. Trump is a Sociopath, and hence, has no “line in the sand.” There is nothing his moral compass – or lack thereof – will stop him from doing.

Hitler didn’t just take over, and the Holocaust – what the Nazis called “Operation Reinhard” – didn’t happen overnight. It was a long and twisted road. Hitler was in power for over 2-years before the Enabling Act was made law, and 7-years before the killings began. Even at that, most of those activities were kept beyond the awareness of the German public. The Nazis worked tirelessly at keeping their secrets.

And until 1944, when Goebbels made his “Total War” speech, and Hitler declared Berlin as the “Final Front,” the German public loved and supported Hitler.

It is for these reasons that I believe that a Trump Presidency represents the end to our Grand Experiment. The death knell of that “Shining City on a Hill.”

That “death knell” is already being tolled I’m afraid. Bad luck for you America, and maybe the rest of us as well.

Nothing maybe about it Pearlie, since we are that stupid big brother that has his hands on everything and it will only be worse with hair Gropenfuror given his business ties world wide. It’s going to be a nightmare world wide for a while with him in office. For that, I am so sorry there are so many idiots in our country voted for him and because of them we will fuck up the world.

“Hair Gropenfuror.” Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. So much so, in fact, I’m stealing it.

Nixon left office without being impeached because he knew too much would come out if he had to face trial. He was able to feel he saved face and the GOP tried to rehabilitate him for decades. Perhaps Trump can be shamed into doing the same, but I doubt that shame is anything he feels. Same deal with Spiro Agnew. There’s always hope, but not much and then there’s Pence who is a piece of work himself.

my only hope is that some republicans have that line in the sand and will at some point put up the necessary resistance. there will be no impeachment because it’s all republicans. can’t stress how important those midterm elections are going to be. maybe our last hope if that isn’t gone already

There is always impeachment – barring that – pitchforks and torches.

I tend to agree. The USA has often been referred to as a great experiment of democracy. The U.S. Constitution, however, does not provide for what happens when the experiment proves a failure!
Speaking of failures, let’s talk about the failure inhumanity that IS Donald Trump!
I’m not sure how long ago it is that I expressed how much I think he is an inappropriate and unfit choice for president…
Oh wait, it was just a couple of days ago. DEFINITELY not recently enough, although it really doesn’t matter…
