A Liberal Hating Englishman Criticizes Protests

Read Time:4 Minute, 53 Second

Thousands and thousands of women – and quite a lot of men too – marched against Trump across the globe. What a complete and utter hypocritical waste of time and effort. I’m no fan of Trump. I don’t really know too much about him but my gut instinct tells me that he’s a bully. What ever else he is becomes pretty insignificant to me. I hate bullies, end of. Mind you, if his actions as President somewhere along the way prove he isn’t a bully then I will rethink my view.

Anyway, thousands of women went on a march against Trump. They don’t like him and fair enough. I don’t like lots of politicians but I know there is absolutely no point in marching and waving banners stating my views on them. Nothing will change. It never does really.

Now I completely support and respect their right to march. I completely and totally respect their view on Trump – and, indeed, any and everyones view on Trump.

What I struggle to respect is this.

Trump said some awful things concerning women and somehow then got himself elected President.

Saudi Arabia and similar regimes have for decades and decades been subjugating women and often treat them like no more than baby factories who must obey their male masters.

There are often small protests outside embassy’s of country’s like Saudi Arabia but that’s about it really.

Why didn’t these women across the globe march against these oppressive regimes oppressing primarily women? Had they done so on a fairly regular basis prior to marching in thousands to object to Trump then those of us who wholeheartedly dispprove of the things Trump has said regarding women might have bothered to take them seriously.

The fact that they saved their numbers purely to march against Trump, a man who may well be a mysoginist and may well have been extrememly unpleasent towards women but he is hardly on the scale of the Saudi’s is he?

Could it be that this ‘women’s march’ was actually not about Trumps bad behaviour with women but, in reality, an unwillingness to accept that their liberal view of the world is being shared by fewer and fewer people. Do they sense that political winds are changing and they don’t like it?

One thing about Trump and, indeed, Brexit that has startled me is the venom with which supposedly liberal people have castigated anyone who doesn’t share their view. The view being Trump and Brexit is bad, the liberal view is good.

It somehow doesn’t seem very liberal to me when supposed liberals pour their bile on anyone who dares to question whether the liberal view on pretty much any issue is correct.

Politicians of the right from across Europe met up the other day and there were protests outside the meeting place. Trump is elected and there are protests around the globe. Britain votes for Brexit and many who wished to remain in the EU refuse to acknowledge we are leaving. They talk of ‘soft Brexit’ and clearly would overturn the referendum result if they could.

The vast vast majority in the above categories are, politically speaking, either liberal or left or, in many cases, both.

Many liberals in America say ‘he’s not my President!’ I’m very much afraid he is. Trump IS the President. It may prove to be a disastrous thing or not but Trump is your President regardless of you insisting he isn’t.

Simple solution. Campaign to make sure he isn’t re-elected in four years time. That’s the democratic method.

Britain IS leaving the EU and the ‘remoaners’ can moan until they are blue in the face. What they should do is campaign to apply to go back into the EU probably by forming a political party the people could vote for. They won’t because they know they would never win.

That, to me, seems to be the liberal and, or left position at the moment.

Democratically they have lost so they are behaving like some kid in the school playground who throws a temper tantrum and takes his ball home because his pals wouldn’t let him score a goal.

I’m not saying for one moment that I know Trump will be a successful President. I’m not saying Brexit will prove to be brilliant. I haven’t got a crystal ball.

I suspect Brexit will prove to be absolutely fine ultimately. I suspect Trump will either be indicted and removed along the way or he will probably, assuming he survives in office, not end up being as bad as some expect – if only because too many ‘behind the scenes’ people are there to prevent a President Loony Tunes from destroying America entirely let alone the world.

Regardless, the liberals and, or the left need to sniff the coffee and wake up. ‘Their’ way has, for now, been rejected. To not accept that with good grace given that ‘their’ way has been rejected through the ballot box is, frankly, undemocratic.

March away ladies but don’t look for my respect. You’ll get that when you stop wasting your time marching against one man who you don’t like, albeit it he’s President, and start marching outside every Saudi embassy on the planet.

Then you will deserve support and respect.

In the meantime liberals and left wingers of American and Britain (for now).

You lost. Be dignified and accept democracy. Work to change things back again by all means but do so democratically and stop wasting your breath saying ‘he’s not my President’ – he is.

Stop wasting your breath trying to stop Brexit. It is happening.

Now grow up the lot of you. This is not a school playground. It’s our world and you don’t own it on your terms. We all own it and, at the moment, your terms will just have to wait for another day.

Bit late but Neil Bamforth or whatever he’s calling himself is out of step here because he’s a right wing supporter and most people here are liberal thinkers as am I. Totally agree with Ron here, and Marsha too.
‘Neil’ has said in previous posts he’s supported or flirted with extreme groups in the UK and I think that’s probably what he really believes in. That was under his previous non de plume !

I agree –
I agree with what Bill said, and I agree with a lot of what Neil said. I cringe every time I read “not my president!” If you’re an American, then he IS your president! He may not stand for what you stand for; you may not stand for what he claims to, but he is your president.
On the other hand I cringe whenever people indicate that the “left” is “sore losers”. That is not what’s happening. Right now, with the start of the Trump regime, people are trying to figure out how much of what he said and says really what he believes and will exercise, and how much is not. We look at his cabinet choices, and we quiver about them, and wait tremble when they are accepted by Congress! I’m not a sore loser, but I do like to, at least, hope that our entire country is not about to be destroyed by an orange brainless idiot.
It’s funny: schadenfreude theoretically is something that we all sometimes feel. I had thought that really I don’t fit in that, because I don’t think it’s funny even when my enemy is the one having problems. But Donald Trump? I’ve heard that they would be wonderful if you were assassinated; I do not think that so, because I think that it would be great for him to go down in an epic fireball of his own doing! I would laugh my a** off!
As for the women’s March, I think it’s wonderful! Why don’t we march in Saudi Arabia? That’s not our country, and we can’t claim (or HAVE to claim) any responsibility for them. On the contrary, we elected a woman hating, pussy grabbing, Cheeto with no morals to be the president of our country! No, a “march”, in and of itself does nothing. But it demonstrates support for groups of people – or at least, A group of people – that has been singled out as a target. And, theoretically, the march is only the start. We can only see where it goes from there.
Is Donald Trump destined to be the worst president ever? Probably, but I am not psychic. I can only go from what his debates and campaigning were like. I have no idea why ANYONE would’ve voted for him, BUT THEY DID! No, it’s not a question of “sore losers”; it’s a question of what can we pull out of this?

You write:

“Mind you, I will ask again. When will we see such a huge number of women march against a Saudi embassy?”

What does that have to do with anything I might ask? First the Saudis don’t have the freedoms we enjoy in the Western world, and secondly I’m afraid I don’t see much beyond liberal hating not only in this article but others you’ve written. Of course you have the right to ask a question, but I don’t know it has to be so directed. Just sayin’ old bean. We are all contributors here.

Well old bean I set up headlines the way I see an article. Nothing personal you know. I actually spent some time on this one, because I certainly didn’t want to hurt your feelings, but I have to write ’em as I see ’em. Again, nothing personal.

Don’t worry about all the liberals man. They feel the same about conservatives. Mike could easy write a header that said Conservative Hating Americans Criticize blah, blah, blah, on pretty much any article over here.

This pretty harsh Neil, and it’s clear you don’t get it. You sound like a Trump supporter despite your protestations to the contrary. One has to ask if you KNOW that you’re addressing a liberal audience over here. Good way to lose your readers if you ask me.

What Bill said…..

Neil, the marches were more about what he has threatened to do. He is the president but among his promises are to do away with Planned Parenthood, an organization that many women use for health screening. About 3% of their budget is actually used for abortions and the rest provides mammograms, pelvic exams, and other cancer screenings free of charge to low income women. They also provide birth control medicine and condoms which many so called Christians find deplorable. Trump is also anti abortion and has said he would apply an anti abortion test to his nominee to the Supreme Court in hopes to overturn the 45 year old decision in Roe v. Wade and put us back to the days of back alley butchers for abortions. A lot of these women see the Trump and the Republican Party as anti women because of their stances on women’s health issues. This has been an ongoing battle since the 1960’s. The Vice President make a comment that represents the Republican Thinking when he said, in effect, that men should be ashamed for allowing their women to take part in the march. A lot of women were offended to think that they would have to have their husband’s or father’s permission to demonstrate. So the intent of the march goes a little deeper than just not liking Donald Trump. They were also trying to show support to the Democratic Party to fight for for their rights.
