An Englishman Talks About An Alternative Trump

Read Time:4 Minute, 18 Second

There is, apparently, some suspicion at MMA that I am a secret Trump supporter – mind you, I’ve also been accused of being a UKIP supporter. The truth is I am neither. There are UKIP policies I approve of and UKIP policies I disagree with. There are policies I agree or disagree with from every possible political party in the UK. That’s why I don’t actually support any party. I agree and disagree with them all in pretty much equal measure and, sadly, there isn’t a ‘Pragmatic Party’.

As for Trump. No, I am not a secret Trump supporter. The simple reason for this is that I would not be secret about it. If I liked him and supported his policies – always assuming I had the foggiest idea what they are – I would say so loud and clear.

I have absolutely no idea what Trumps policies are.

Having never met the man I can only judge him on what I have seen on TV – as can we all.

I don’t particularly like what I’ve seen on TV. I feel a certain sympathy when he talks about removing illegal immigrants. I feel a certain sympathy when he says ‘America first’ as I believe we should be saying ‘Britain first’. Some of my ‘instincts’ are patriotic even to the extent of nationalistic I suppose. I love my country and want Britain’s government to put us first.

If we put ourselves first and there’s nothing left over then tough. If there is then fine. A bit of international aid can be found.

Perhaps that’s a selfish view but it’s mine and I’m not afraid to say so. Charity, in my view, begins at home. That’s why I give to ‘The Dogs Trust’ and ‘Cats Protection’ and ‘Redwings Horse Sanctuary’ and various wildlife and environmental charities. I have the cash to spare so they get it. If I didn’t have the cash to spare they wouldn’t. That, to me, is how charitable giving works.

You can afford it and, if you have any morals or feelings, you do it. You can’t afford it you look after your own. Perhaps, in the future, you can afford it again and you give again.

International aid falls into that category. Our National Health Service is in crisis as is our housing and education. Scrap international aid and sort our country out. once you have we can look at it again.

So, Trump. No. I don’t like what I’ve seen and I like very little of what I’ve heard. Tonight I heard he scrapped aid to poor nations regarding abortion.

Now I’m sorry. When I say scrap international aid I am generalising. There has to be some moral obligation even if your country has internal issues. If he had scrapped international aid to spend the money on the USA then all well and good but surely you look at the whole picture and, if you have any morals at all, you hold fire on particular things.

After all, I suspect the money America spends on assisting in this field is miniscule in the general scheme of things anyway.

Britain stopped giving billions to India – endemic with poverty – as India was spending billions on a space programme and a nuclear programme. That’s the sort of international aid I think should stop.

Poverty is still endemic in India and some people live atrocious lives but, frankly, tough. If their government prefers spending billions on space and nuclear programmes then it isn’t for us to bale their people out.

Countries who haven’t got billions are another matter.

The fact Trump has stopped this abortion aid to poor countries who haven’t got a pot to piss in is disgusting if you ask me. – You didn’t but when does that ever stop me eh?

Trump does, I believe, deny climate change is happening. If so he is a complete asshole before you go any further. It is proven scientifically and yet so many powerful people still deny it is happening.

To be honest, Trump denying climate change is happening is enough for me to not like the dick regardless of his idiotic outbursts about women and Mexicans and so forth.

So. Record set straight. No, I am not a secret Trump supporter. No, I don’t like him. No, I don’t agree with hardly anything he has said. No, I do not hate liberals or liberal ideals.

I sometimes disagree with liberal ideals but I do not hate anybody. Well, hardly anybody. I’m not very struck on that referee the other week who failed to award a clear penalty kick to Oldham Athletic. I possibly even hated him for a short while but, generally, I do not hate anyone, not even Trump.

I just don’t like the son of a bitch.

Mind you, when Trumps ‘camp’ claimed they were speaking an ‘alternative truth’ you just had to laugh didn’t you? No? Well I cracked up. Classic. Unbelievable bullshit. Makes me giggle thinking about it even now. Assholes.

Neil, there are times when you must write what you view as the truth as you see it. It is your view of the world and it is not going to always please everyone. It is worth my time to read your articles and think them true and respond in an objective manner rather than a knee jerk fashion. For progressives I believe we need to have things brought up that makes us think beyond “the box” because that is who we are. The biggest difference between us and the Trump supporters is, or should be, that we think before reacting. In the case of your prior article I tried to see it from your perspective.
One thing I found really amusing was VP Pence railing against husbands “allowing” their wives to participate in the demonstration. HA! I can just see me telling any woman I would have anything to do with, “No, you can’t go.” If I did not get my head handed to me in a basket, I would at a minimum would be told where I could stick it. Thinking like that, in my opinion went out in the 1950’s in this country. Now Muslims may see it different and that is their problem because I have enough trouble thinking for myself much less another person.
So, in any event, do be so put off by the critiques of your writing. But thanks for the explanation anyway.
