Thank you, thank you for posting this. It’s always nice to have one’s ideas confirmed and this feels like a confirmation to me. It’s worth pointing out that despite all the passionate assertions that the CDC keeps no gun statistics, they do – and they publish them. But having a rational look at those numbers isn’t easy. It’s a battle of the passions and nobody likes to change their mind. The Endowment effect applies to ideas too.
Yes, more than half of gun deaths are suicides and those aren’t going to be diminished by the howling about “military style” Can we talk about getting help for suicidal people, a huge number of whom are combat veterans? No, we can’t take time out from screaming about things that might have a tiny effect if any in order to save thousands.
