The Metamorphosis: Cockroaches Swarm the Capitol

Read Time:46 Second

From The Metamorphosis
by Franz Kafka

Gregor Samsa woke up one morning and found that everyone in the world had become a cockroach. Hearing rustling outside his bedroom and smelling a strange stench he locked the door.

Tuning to the morning news on his bedroom TV he saw scenes of man-sized roaches swarming over the capitol and attempting to overturn monuments and statues of heroes and setting fire to government buildings.

He had to ask himself if he was the only human left but was afraid to call out because from the sounds from the street and in his family apartment he was sure he knew the answer: the whole population of his country had been replaced by insect brained vermin, or perhaps he had been transported suddenly to another universe.

At least Alice knew she had gone down a hole or through a mirror. What the hell just happened, he said to himself?
